I am a former atheist turned spiritual philosopher

2019-01-07 05:49:34 UTC

interesting

2019-01-07 05:49:38 UTC

Because I have no religion but I do have logic from the Greek philosophers

2019-01-07 05:49:44 UTC

Like Socrates and Descartes

2019-01-07 05:49:47 UTC

taht's fair

2019-01-07 05:49:48 UTC

It is sound imo

2019-01-07 05:50:02 UTC

If there was once nothing, so too would there still be nothing

2019-01-07 05:50:18 UTC

Simple

2019-01-07 05:50:21 UTC

I just see religion as this, almost every religion has the same stories, they ultimately teach the same morals

2019-01-07 05:50:37 UTC

Similar at least

2019-01-07 05:50:38 UTC

the differences is how the stories were interpreted

2019-01-07 05:50:55 UTC

its not a necessity to be religious

2019-01-07 05:51:03 UTC

buut it comforts me at least

2019-01-07 05:51:13 UTC

that's what matters to me

2019-01-07 05:51:29 UTC

Logic comforts me

2019-01-07 05:51:39 UTC

Do you know the Joseph Campbell description of religion?

2019-01-07 05:51:47 UTC

Faith to me is at worst believing a beloved liar

2019-01-07 05:52:08 UTC
2019-01-07 05:52:19 UTC

I do not know that description

2019-01-07 05:53:45 UTC

Religion is a collection of beliefs to 1) answer to questions of the universe, 2) indoctrinate the individual with morals in support of the community ethic and 3) to provide reassurances in toughs times.

2019-01-07 05:54:15 UTC

seems legit @Khanclansith

2019-01-07 05:54:45 UTC

That is happenstance

2019-01-07 05:54:49 UTC

Why do we have earthquakes? -Religious answer

2019-01-07 05:54:52 UTC

Religion claims to be the truth

2019-01-07 05:55:00 UTC

What it provides is reassurance

2019-01-07 05:55:22 UTC

Mainstream science provides reassurance but also wonder to atheists

2019-01-07 05:55:24 UTC

we have earthquakes because that is how the earth was made

2019-01-07 05:55:49 UTC

I think strict atheists are sad people. just my opinion

2019-01-07 05:56:02 UTC

believe what you want, but there is a hope with religion

2019-01-07 05:56:04 UTC

Regardless of what caused something, things work a certain way

2019-01-07 05:56:12 UTC

agreed

2019-01-07 05:56:15 UTC

To the ancient greeks who didn't have modern science, the idea of Titans fighting in the earth making earthquakes was acceptable

2019-01-07 05:56:45 UTC

I say the logic of ancient philosophers trumps religion

2019-01-07 05:56:52 UTC

But the same result occurs

2019-01-07 05:57:00 UTC

that's your view, nothing wrong there

2019-01-07 05:57:14 UTC

not my place to say you're right or wrong

2019-01-07 05:57:19 UTC

I honestly think that Polythiestic religions do a better job explaining "How can there be evil?" than monotheistic religions

2019-01-07 05:57:29 UTC

The one difference is that I don't believe in any text for faith value . I need to test it

2019-01-07 05:57:29 UTC

that's cool

2019-01-07 05:57:50 UTC

I think that evil exists within man itself

2019-01-07 05:57:57 UTC

its not some outside force
