It feels like the Media is almost *trying* to start a race war

2019-02-15 00:09:33 UTC

More accurately, they're trying to stir up interesting sensational stories. Racial tension stories generate lots of money.

2019-02-15 00:10:28 UTC

They 'know' that no matter what happens to the nation or society, there will always be a demand for media and news, therefore you might as well generate something interesting

2019-02-15 00:10:50 UTC

the culture war will never be over

2019-02-15 00:11:30 UTC

It might stabilize though. Hell, I'd say it's currently pretty stable. The violence is minimal and isolated.

2019-02-15 00:12:08 UTC

@SinSanguine Really? Cause antifa is trying to go hot in Oregon right now

A school shooting, and then planting bombs at police stations

2019-02-15 00:13:15 UTC

@Arch-Fiend By 'culture war' most people mean the current civil infighting in the west since the 1960s

2019-02-15 00:14:17 UTC

the 1960's was a turning point of identity politics

2019-02-15 00:16:55 UTC

These incidents may be violent, but the system is still stable. People are going to work and school still. No mass civil unrest, just Antifa merely trying to go hot. I'll wait and see how it progresses, but it's not destabilizing anything besides local mood.

2019-02-15 00:18:20 UTC

the 1960's was built up from 150 years of a completely different culture war that lead to a small period of time where the big idea was "were not going to do this identity politics shit anymore" unfortunately this was also during a time where the generational gap was the strongest in history, those who inherited the world after the 1960s were raised on the back of that strong revolutionary spirit that got the world to change but also live in a world that takes longer than a single man's life for those changes to be expressed.

2019-02-15 00:18:24 UTC

@SinSanguine The destabilization doesn't frighten me.

The apathetic nature of Americans does however.

2019-02-15 00:20:57 UTC

It should. It's weird. It's a detachment from part of what makes us human. It's a side effect of our technology though. We're overexposed to information and desensitized, but it might not can be helped without bringing in other dystopian elements such as censorship or propaganda, which are already being used to combat the apathy.

2019-02-15 00:21:10 UTC

intersectional identity politics is going to open the door for nepotism by making race, gender, sexuality, identity a conversation to have, if it can be had on one side it will be had on the other. nepotism is the natural enemy of intersectional identity politics and is what they think the modern world is actually built on (which is partly true, but they dont realize that we have recently decided to go against that). however their attack on everyone who beleives we are beyond this and just want to move on is going to build resentment in the future generations who have to be born into it.

2019-02-15 00:25:32 UTC

the culture war is racist, it is about taking from one group and giving to another, and is going to create people who have their parents harmed by and are opressed by it while growing up resentful for it. the worse it gets the more that group of people are going to think they can only work with eachother in this world in order to survive because anyone else is a part of the group pushing them down

2019-02-15 00:28:45 UTC

basicly, everything that ever brought different people with different ideas and different identitys that was worked on during the last 200 years is going to be destroyed by people who claim they are fighting for the same thing that lead to civil rights

2019-02-15 00:29:06 UTC

Everything? Seems a little pessimistic.

2019-02-15 00:29:32 UTC

if they are able to contenue? yes

2019-02-15 00:35:25 UTC

we are in a world that is becoming "stick to your own kind" on both sides for completely different reasons, what do you gain by not picking a side? the center isint winning, its only maintaining its principles as it becomes irrelivent. i could be wrong, the extreme tolerence of the center may have a breaking point at some point, however if those who believe we should all just get along remain tolerent as one side beats the fear into its children while the other side takes them in with claims that they can be trusted just because they look the same then your creating a future where things are not going to become any more stable

2019-02-15 00:37:37 UTC

theres only one side really fighting in the culture war, they will create another side given enough time, and if the sleeping giant never wakes up before it shrinks with hunger, it will awaken to see that it is the minority again

2019-02-15 00:40:46 UTC

So then violence happens. Maybe a few decades or even centuries of chaos. Maybe totalitarian rule steps up to stifle the chaos. Maybe 1984's story becomes strikingly close to reality. Maybe even nuclear war leads to mass death. In the end, whatever will happen, will happen. I prefer to stick to caring about what's in my immediate sphere of influence and control. Worrying about the future outside of me seems like a waste of my emotional energy.

2019-02-15 00:46:50 UTC

im not talking about that long term, im talking about a matter of generations, this will occure in your lifetime, it may get at its worse around the end of your lifetime. totalitarian? im not sure about that, the center may rise up and just try and crush both sides with as much violence as posible, i think the far right will just slink back into hiding as it always does during that. if the center waits to long before it trys that and it doesent actually have any ideological power behind it anymore, the majority of people are already on one or the other side, it wont be able to be effective, what will happen is a war between identitarians, intersectionalists vs those they opress, and the success of intersectionalists during that war depends souly on how much political power it has relitive to the other side at the time.

2019-02-15 00:48:17 UTC

the newer generations are not going to be infavor of intersectionality in the west so long as it contenues to work against them

2019-02-15 00:49:27 UTC

Yeah, the center won't hold forever, as it almost never does, but after the clash between sides things will move on and return to normalcy. Also... this discussion may be getting quite off-topic.

2019-02-15 00:49:53 UTC

yep

2019-02-15 00:54:41 UTC

Good stuff though! I love the healthy, rational discussion.

Onion or MSM?

2019-02-15 01:46:25 UTC

At times I wonder if the people at the Onion read the news and go, Why are they doing our job?
