i mean, what else is new. Legislators throw shit left and right. You'll have someone compete make a good deal, then have his cohort turn around and produce a deal like foxconn. But this also means that each case needs to be observed on a case by case basis. That said, as Tim pointed out and others point out, lowering taxes across the board is probably more effective.

most of what i read in that pew article, and referenced the previous articles, is that its more a problem with implementation than the idea itself.

That last statement of yours belies the problem

You could say the same thing about communism

Theory is irrelevant if it can't be implemented correctly

except communism isn't even good on paper

nor socialism

That's just an opinion though

I value ideas based on their ability to get claimed results

So far, the evidence for tax incentives is that there is a lot of devil in the details

And its far from reasonable to simply believe untested assertions about what they will do

Particularly when many states go out of their way to avoid studying them in the first place

the state goes out of its way to avoid studying a lot of stuff

Which, in my view, is indicative the state shouldn't be doing it then

immigration status, gun crime, drug use

It's not reality based decision making

You have a bunch of unqualified people make calls in place of experts and lie for a living.

if you have raised taxes so much that businesses are actively leaving your state, then you don't really have a choice but to lower them.

but lowering them won't get you re-elected

so, you need to make incentives for each new company you want to bring in.

Taxes tend to be marginal in measuring IRRs for new business expansion

I'm just saying

It isn't good practice to just assume that when a government offers tax incentives to attract business

It's going to work as intended

And the evidence backs that up
