I think it's important for patriotism to be centered around the principles that make your country great. I'd love for everyone chanting USA USA USA to be doing it not just "because we're the best" but "because we have all these wonderful aspects of our country".
Mindless patriotism is stifling at best, and dangerous at worst. Pride in important principles makes sure that they aren't forgotten.
