Orthodox bishops aren't married either
They should allow marriage though
Imo
Marriage should only be illegal for the ones that choose to live inside Monasteries that women aren't able to go
I *agree* with it in principle
But at this time we don't have the money
@Deleted User I'm going out, if you don't mind send the verses. I'll read them when I'm done with my studying
A priest is paid pathetically low salary, works six days per week
Lives at the Church
It's difficult to raise a family on that
It's not that the churches don't have money though, they do have a lot of them too
Is he really? I thought they got paid decently
My priest is paid something like $18,000 a year
I'll have to look it up
Runs two churches, alone
Plus going to the prison and the military base
He is the only priest we have for two parishes. Not a unique situation either
Up here anyways
Our priests start from 644 euros up to 2600 euros as an archbishop
Midwest has the highest salary in the US, around $29
@Deleted User a year?
@Thornberry Per month
Our bishops get the same pay
Oh
That's really good tbh
I imagine cost of living is probably lower there
For Greece, 2600 is a dream like payment
The salary is basically tied to diocese based on cost of living
I know when my parents were church ministers they didnt get paid much and everything they had was owned by the church
My bishop gets paid the same as my priest
He owned a motorcycle at one time but everything else was church owned
I think the highest paid priest or Bishop is around $45,000
All of it is taxed
And being single, it's taxed heavily
But anyway, that's not a family salary. That's very low.
$18k is about what a McDonald's employee makes
If the entire country was Catholic and there was a lot more tithes coming in, then I'd support it
Right now, 20% of us give an average of 3% of our income
