Sorry, one standard deviation is 15, not 12.

2018-11-07 09:54:36 UTC

That is why I must have been thinking of 85.

2018-11-07 09:54:39 UTC

IQ is hardly a tool to judge intelligence

2018-11-07 09:54:49 UTC

It's actually the best tool we have.

2018-11-07 09:55:00 UTC

I'm gonna save that quote

2018-11-07 09:55:01 UTC
2018-11-07 09:55:03 UTC

Again I got a cousin who would score 20 on an IQ test, but can build pretty much anything

2018-11-07 09:55:10 UTC

it will be useful in the future

Usually the G factor in the IQ is very predictive, to about the same degree for the skills we know it predicts.

2018-11-07 09:56:51 UTC

So, it is rare to see that two people that both have about the same IQ score very differently on the language and/or math portion of the test.

2018-11-07 09:57:11 UTC

It does happen, though, that the distribution is a bit different, so the sub scores differ.

2018-11-07 09:57:51 UTC

So, maybe the skill distribution is a bit different in rare cases, but in general it applies

2018-11-07 09:58:11 UTC

I dont see how?

2018-11-07 09:58:30 UTC

Math and language dont get you money

2018-11-07 09:58:32 UTC

Well, by measuring large numbers of people.

2018-11-07 09:58:43 UTC

To the tune of millions that have been tested.

2018-11-07 09:58:53 UTC

Wait, money?

2018-11-07 09:59:00 UTC

Why are we talking about money now?

2018-11-07 09:59:13 UTC

Actors make money.

2018-11-07 09:59:15 UTC

My cousin makes a ton of money, but he's as dumb as a fucking brick

2018-11-07 09:59:16 UTC

Singers make money.

2018-11-07 09:59:16 UTC

@Undead Mockingbird @Jasse under that assumption that what you guys have said is true that black people are 15 IQ lower then the avg. White person, would you use that to justify any law or practices?

2018-11-07 09:59:30 UTC

No.

2018-11-07 09:59:31 UTC

So if IQ was the only standard how come he can make money?

2018-11-07 09:59:56 UTC

I am strictly in favor of meritocracy.

2018-11-07 10:00:05 UTC

Also, note that I never said that the value of a person should hinge on their IQ.

2018-11-07 10:00:16 UTC

Thats why I ask

2018-11-07 10:00:18 UTC

Jasse did

2018-11-07 10:00:32 UTC

you have people with extreme high IQ that are poor

2018-11-07 10:00:37 UTC

@DanteMenace apparently it is in educaion. blacks need way lower score to get in school. and asians need way higher score to get in.

2018-11-07 10:00:40 UTC

A singer doesn't need to be that intelligent. I am not saying that it hurts, but you primarily make money with your voice.

2018-11-07 10:00:45 UTC

high IQ doesn't mean you will succeed

2018-11-07 10:00:52 UTC

Right.

2018-11-07 10:01:00 UTC

but it is still the major factor to predict success

2018-11-07 10:01:10 UTC

@Jasse Thats not the question, would you make policy and laws based off of black peoples lower IQ

2018-11-07 10:01:16 UTC

Intelligent people might be more driven, in general, but you can also have a high IQ and be very lazy.

2018-11-07 10:01:17 UTC

answer the question

2018-11-07 10:01:55 UTC

This is an easy question

2018-11-07 10:02:08 UTC

In general, though, your IQ score is highly predictive for your later social position, by and large, in western countries - which is actually what you would WANT so see, because it tells you people are rewarded based on what they contribute, and not based on what they look like.

2018-11-07 10:02:12 UTC

wtf of a question is that even?
