It's getting worse. You can hardly even get a VPN in mainland China anymore.
yea he has been talking about that
People treat each other horribly because everything is a liability.
he is bailing for the us soon
Yes, it's shitty.
I was very close to having my Z visa.
i couldnt live like that
I am not sure I still want to go.
I wish I had 10 years ago.
yea
I think C-Milk is already in CA for good.
Pozzie, too, I think.
i have not kept up with milk but i know he has property up there
What I see in China is similar to what I see in the US: the state has become a cudgel that people wield against each other, which drives people apart, makes them suspicious of each other. Compare this to the MeToo movement and the Mike Pence rule.
when you have kids and people constantly attacking you trying to get you deported i can see why the only option is to leave
The US is a very litigious society, which is different from Europe. I grew up in Europe and people are required to give first aid, for example. In the US I have seen many cases where nobody wants to help because they are afraid of criminal charges or being sued.
yea i cant say i want to buy the lotto ticket to destroy my life with metoo its kinda the reason i am not looking for a relation ship at all
If you think I'm exaggerating, consider this: https://nypost.com/2017/11/13/women-are-less-likely-to-receive-cpr-because-of-boobs-study/
There have now been cases where toddlers were left to drown in a lake or women died, because people were too afraid of the liability.
honestly i dont blame them
yeah i definitly agree
with all the BS we have seen
well where i live we dont have that shit so id probably still try to save someone as much as i can
but if i hear anything else but thank you for saving my/my kids life
i will throw a scene
If people are so quick to send the weight of the state crushing down on them, we will live in a society of deep distrust.
true that
i already have trust issues
Part of why people in Europe are still generally more willing to help each other is because the general societal risk is more spread out.
There are advantages and disadvantages to this model. The US has a model that emphasizes individual liability, but also individual gain.
well my country has always otten fucked over so its almost as if we are mostly disconnected
the reason we dont have massive protests is because people in here are way to fucking lazy or high or tehy care too much about their job
yea i cant say i would willingly save some one unless its to personal benefit if its not some one i know
That is also a reason why US awards handed out by courts seem so insane to Europeans. In Europe, due to society in general carrying the burden for injury, damages are usually much less, because society is already footing the bill for health care in general. If you break your leg in a car crash and can't work, there is less of a social net for you in the US, so, in order to be able to fully compensate for the loss, the awards must be higher.
but just imagine for a second that you wake up with some guy standing over you and the last thing you remeber is flying through your cars windshield whilst simultaniously driving that same car into a river, how idiotic must you be to accuse that person who went out of his way to save your miserable life of anything
That is the fundamental ideological divide between a society with collective vs. individual responsibility.
if i were to be a rapist i wouldnt give CPR to some random woman right?
i would just do my thing and leave
less eye witnesses
Hmm?
