I live in portland too, and I see those flags around everywhere. I've always thought it was odd that none of them mentioned 'freedom' as one of the virtues they stood for

Ironically, growing up in Alabama and living a while outside of it, I ended up hating living in "white areas" of liberal areas of Midwest/Northeast most because to liberal racism. It felt uncomfortable not to see as many black, Asian or Hispanic people as I was used to growing up.

i grew up in a very white neighborhood but now that i'm living on my own i've moved to a significantly less white neighborhood

I left the south for the first time in a long time, and definitely noticed just how many white people were everywhere, and that was in a very urban environment

It's unsettling to go to the store and back and see only white people.

The main difference there was that there was a very clear line separating the black part of town from the rest whereas where I'm from it's much more of a patchwork quilt of different communities with blurry lines
