vim is inconvenient to use

2018-09-04 08:01:24 UTC

That way, I can edit my shit on any computer or on my phone

2018-09-04 08:01:37 UTC

*big brother is watching*

2018-09-04 08:01:39 UTC

Without needing to carry a usb around

2018-09-04 08:01:48 UTC

*very closely, citizen*

2018-09-04 08:01:58 UTC

I only own one computer, so I don't have any need cloud svcs

2018-09-04 08:02:12 UTC

Google isn't that bad yet tbh

2018-09-04 08:02:22 UTC

It is though

2018-09-04 08:02:40 UTC

it's been infiltrated by the NSA for a long time

2018-09-04 08:03:17 UTC

Says as Youtube reworks it's algorithm. As it fires James Damore. As it partners with Mastercard to learn everything you've bought. As it reworks it's search algorithm. As it partners with China to censor Chinese search results. As it fights internally over helping the CIA...

2018-09-04 08:03:40 UTC

I really don't like Google

2018-09-04 08:03:40 UTC

Google's been infiltrated by everyone imaginable. And they know everything.

2018-09-04 08:04:01 UTC

I'll bet Google is eating these chatlogs, tbh

2018-09-04 08:04:16 UTC

I don't think discord has any relationships with Google yet.

2018-09-04 08:04:25 UTC

But I wouldn't be surprised if they get them at some point.

2018-09-04 08:04:39 UTC

But I'm sure these chats will get into their hands at some point

2018-09-04 08:04:42 UTC

What's the best browser/search engine then?

2018-09-04 08:04:47 UTC

I use searx

2018-09-04 08:04:58 UTC

It can be run as an instance on different servers

2018-09-04 08:05:01 UTC

Brave + Duck Duck Go gets passed around here alot.

2018-09-04 08:05:07 UTC

DDG is a meme

2018-09-04 08:05:13 UTC

and likely steals your data

2018-09-04 08:05:33 UTC

@pratel I recommend you read this

2018-09-04 08:05:34 UTC
2018-09-04 08:06:43 UTC

I'm not quite sure how much of that argument I buy.

2018-09-04 08:06:56 UTC

Well, it's definitely confirmed that they save searches

2018-09-04 08:07:04 UTC

how else can they have autocomplete?

2018-09-04 08:07:42 UTC

The argument that they were founded by a person that sought to get lots of emails doesn't really prove anything. And while the NSA might be able to get in, that could be said of basically any country with an organized government.

2018-09-04 08:08:04 UTC

I could think of lots of ways to do autocomplete without needing to save any particular search.

2018-09-04 08:08:25 UTC

Search engines will record stuff in general. If it's AI, it needs to consume data somehow.

2018-09-04 08:08:25 UTC

Well, think what you want, but I don't trust it because it is closed source, and because of the creator's history

2018-09-04 08:08:35 UTC

Fair.

2018-09-04 08:08:54 UTC

But, even if it is safe, searx is better in my opinion

2018-09-04 08:09:17 UTC

I'll have to look into searx. This is the first time I've heard of it.

2018-09-04 08:09:35 UTC

It's an open source meta search engine

2018-09-04 08:09:43 UTC

It has a lot of instances to choose from

2018-09-04 08:09:44 UTC

So an open source Dogpile?

2018-09-04 08:09:50 UTC

Kind of

2018-09-04 08:11:13 UTC

I'm going to write instance randomizer rn

2018-09-04 08:11:25 UTC

so that you can search from a random instance each time

2018-09-04 08:20:18 UTC

What's an instance?
