Hullo! I'm Olivia. I'm one of the rare trans women who ardently pursue mens rights issues. The way I see it, I lived as a man for 20 years, and despite living as a woman for 4 years now, I can't forget the ways I and others I knew were treated, and the hypocracies I always felt in those situations. I've been a member of the Honey Badger Radio discord group for a couple years now, so this isn't my first mens rights discord chat, but I did just recently learn this one existed, so I figured I'd poke my head in and see what's what.
Thank you
@Men Are Human That's good to hear, and yes, I'm most certainly up for it! I have the good fortune of being 'passable', and I also moved to a new city in a new state so I'm far away from anyone who knew me before. The majority of people I interact with these days have no idea i'm trans unless I find the need to tell them, and I usually don't, so I think my experiences have been similar to the average woman for the past 3 years or so.
The biggest difference I've noticed has been first impressions. Particularly from women. They're not afraid of me anymore for one thing. They'll smile, and are much more likely to initiate conversation, and my personal favorite, they don't assume I'm creepily hitting on them every conversation, so that's nice. Work, too, is easier. I don't have a very hard job to begin with, but my boss nowdays is a very chivalrous sort and actively goes out of his way to do any heavy lifting for me, which is pretty nice to be honest. I've never had a boss lift a finger to help me pre transition. Not without chewing me out first.
On the topic of chivalrous behavior. Actually having people attempt to flirt with me in bars and other locations is quite a nice change of pace. I used to be the kid people thought was going to shoot up the school. I never ever got compliments from people. For my looks or otherwise. It's so refreshing to have people actually willing to approach. and engage with me. I have a longstanding relationship that's looking like it'll lead to marriage so I'm not ever looking to be reciprocal, but my god, the positive attention is nice when you grew up starved of it.
yo
@Men Are Human sure, you can quote me, and there's definitely plenty more I could say
thanks @fallen7
I was raised in Oklahoma
I did start my transition there
but later moved to Utah
I think it has certainly given me a more nuanced view of gender
unfortunately, a lot of the 'nuance' I've noticed, I can barely talk about because the trans community at large is often so in lock step with feminism that they wont hear anything I have to say that's in opposition
๐ you're good
That's what I keep preachin, but it doesn't usually take it seems
