When I was a young man and thought myself invincible, I investigated nearly everything I saw. Now that I am old I understand (I think) that there are many things out there that are intended to fill the mind with trash. With the intent to drag you down to the devil's level and steal your soul. Now I firmly believe that God covers us with the blood of Christ and that all can be forgiven when we ask, but I also think it's possible to step out from under that covering by free will and suffer the consequences. (Not affecting salvation) Knowing this also that ALL things work together for the good of those who are 'the called according to His purpose.

Please remember, fear and anxiety are the opposite of faith. These are exactly the emotions the enemy wants to instill in Gods people. Take a deep breath, ask God for wisdom and discernment and know that He has you and all you love in His hand.

Some advice I just gave my daughter. When you rise up in the morning, thank God for bringing you through the night. Ask Him to guide you through the day and then leave it in His hands. Through the day pay attention to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. Give thanks again when you retire for the night and ask forgiveness for any place you might have missed His guidance through the day and the sin that so easily besets us. If you do these things I believe that weight that hangs over your head will slip away and be replaced by joy unspeakable.

Jesus said "Straight is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life eternal and but few there be that find it " (from memory so might be slightly different). There are always those few.

Jesus told a parable about the rich man in hell, who, lifting up his eyes, saw Lazarus being comforted in the bosom of Abraham. It brings to mind a part of a song from the 70s. "What ya gonna do when the world's on fire? Don't ya want God's bosom to be your pillow?"

David, a man after God's own heart, decided one day that he could do God a service and bring the Ark of God back to Israel. It turned out to be the cause of a lot of heartache. It was not in God's timing or in His prescribed way. Not saying to never try to do God's will. Just be sure it is God's will. He opens doors but doesn't tell us to bust them down. Pray always before action. Allow Him to lead you.

Pray without ceasing. In my opinion this means to remain in an attitude of prayer, always listening for that still, small voice.

The right mental attitude will bring any promise of God to pass.

@Deb65 I have to tell you that those spirits are always around, waiting in the shadows to attack. The good news is that because our Lord has already won the war, the only power those spirits have is what we grant them. Hold to God's unchanging hand. He will walk with you and carry you through the darkest of timrs.

@patriotlady5 You raise an issue that is thorny indeed. For any two people to live together for any length of time in this world that is bent on tearing them apart is a monumental task. I say this as a man who is a two time loser in that regard. I now know that I have been the sort of fellow of whom you speak. Insensitive, unresponsive, always looking after my own vision of how the world should be. What is the answer to this dilemma? I'm not sure. I do know that Jesus tells us to love one another better than we love ourselves. How can we do that? Only with His help. Perhaps our expectations of others are unrealistic. Perhaps we need to give that person into God's hands, quit trying to change him or her into what we think they ought to be and instead be thankful for the chance to share with them their joys and sorrows, knowing that our happiness is found in living for God and His righteousness.

What is sound doctrine? Is it not taking the whole council of God? Both the pleasant and the uncomfortable?

There is an old saying (a little silly perhaps) that goes like this; "I'm sure you thought you understood what you thought you heard me say, but I'm not sure you realize that what I said was not what I meant." Another way of saying something very similar is from Shakespeare; "There's may a slip between the cup and the lip." The idea I'm trying to put forth here is embodied in the scripture, "Lean not to your own understanding." Proverbs 3: 5. God will give you discernment if you ask. Things and people are not always what they seem at face value. Seek the Holy Spirit. He was sent to lead you into all truth.

@QuikWit Basically it means sharing a meal together. Loaves of bread were broken rather than cut. This is still done in many parts of the world. Unleavened bread is easy to break apart. It also has a spiritual component. Jesus body (the Bread of Life) was broken for us.

The world is full of surprising sights. I'm sure God has many messages for those with eyes to see. Just be sure it measures up to His Word.

God uses people with the gift of prophesy to reveal the meaning of dreams. These people should be a proven commodity. The bible says that a prophet must be 100% right, 100% of the time or they should be put to death. Howbeit, He did promise that in the last days He would pour out His Spirit on all flesh. "Your sons and daughters will prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. And on my servants and on my handmaids I will pour out of My Spirit in those days and they shall prophesy." There are prophets and there are gifts of prophesy.

Let's talk about the Sabbath. Is it a day of the week? In the book of Hebrews (presumably written by Paul) this subject is dealt with pretty comprehensively in chapters three and four. He is speaking of Gods rest (or Sabbath). In chapter four verses 9-12 the scripture gives us a look at the true Saba

bath. "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works,as God did from His.

Let us labor, therefore,to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

For the Word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and is a discernerof the thoughts and intents of the heart.

I contend that the Sabbath is a person. The Lord Jesus Christ himself. When you have entered into Christ, you have entered into His rest. Without that you can keep any day you like and it won't make a bit of difference.

Galatians 5: 1 and 13-16 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage 13-16 For brethren ye have been called unto liberty, only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself". But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then, "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh".

@imig yes that's the one. One of my favorites, but there are a ton of great songs I've always enjoyed scripture songs. As to practice I've become a slow learner as I've gotten older and somewhat disabled.

I do believe that God leads me and gives me the knowledge I need. I will walk in His light and do that which he leads me to. His joy is my strength.

MY OPINION based on what I know of scripture. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins and sent back His Holy Spirit to lead us because, WE COULD NOT DO IT ON OUR OWN. We are the creation. He is the creator. Yes, He allowed sin to enter the world through lust. I believe it was because He was not finished with the creation of us, His creation. Without the introduction of sin we couldn't learn it's devastating effects or how to be over-comers of it by giving our lives back into the hands that created it. The fact that we have free will is the proof of it because we then have the choice to give that free will back into His keeping and instead be led by His Holy Spirit

1 John 4: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it inthe world.

2 John: 7For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

The antichrist is, first and foremost, an evil spirit. A spirit can infect anyone who is not sealed into Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit of God. It is known by it's fruit just as those who are sealed into Christ are known by their fruit. Whoi s it

One would hope he is looking in the right direction for that help. There are many causes for depression. Sometimes it is oppression. I pray he finds the right kind of help. Most of all I pray God is gracious to lead him to that everlasting fountain of healing.
