@Malady I started my daughter when she was 10, but I'd do it earlier if I had it all to do over. Honestly, get a small bolt 22 rifle and teach respect, safety, and marksmanship. It will depend a lot on the maturity of your child, but I've seen children as young as 6 safely handling a 22 under close supervision.
