I was a trucker for a while and I’m still in the industry, just as a broker now. I never met a liberal trucker

I went to school for history and foreign language and I just kinda ended up in trucking after a couple of years driving intermodal. I’m not sure how people get into hot shots, I did intermodal. Trucking is stressful sometimes but honestly not the worst

I had a decent amount of flexibility driving for Schneider. I worked 4 days a week within HOS laws so yeah the hours might seem unsafe but they aren’t terrible. I was home every day and was doing 500 miles or so most nights. Once you get the hang of it, it was decent pay but I wanted something a little more stable, so I took the pay cut and switched from night shift to days within the company to be a sales rep/broker

Intermodal is a little more dangerous if you don’t pay attention to what you’re doing, but they overblow it in training

Hate recommending the competition lol but I had some friends when I was in Amazon transportation that went to JB Hunt, and they were starting with salary for a set time period at $1400 per week, and then it switched over to standard driver pay and they kept making good money

On a good week I’d be around $1000 for 4 days of driving

By the time I left, pretty much every week

Long haul drivers made way more than I did

Not really, we were no touch so I didn’t have to load trailers and newer trucks are all automatic fifth wheels for connecting to trailers so I never had to pull the release manually
