GOP Senators Murkowski and Toomey just came out and said they will vote to certify the election.

This makes it virtually impossible for the senate to reject electors because every GOP senator is needed in order to toss them

If pence said that it indicates that he does not plan on interfering

2021-01-03 06:16:36 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

If pence rejected electors there are no objections from the GOP senators or presentation of evidence during debate

Also VP Pence doesnโ€™t actually read the electoral votes as theyโ€™re counted. He opens them and then hands them to tellers from the house and senate who then read them

Hereโ€™s how it works

In yellow is the house parliamentarian who tells the VP what to say in the procedures (example: when someone raises an objection)

In Red are the people who read the electoral votes (the tellers)

Oh also I forgot to mention the tellers are bipartisan so 2 democrats will be reading the electoral votes after pence hands it to them along with 2 republicans

A lot of people are convinced that January 6th will end with Trump being re-elected but itโ€™s because they think Pence is the reader of electoral votes. They are being lied too, itโ€™s sad.

Hereโ€™s how 1/6 works for those who donโ€™t know.

In yellow: the house parliamentarian (they advise the VP on what to say) pence will need one because this is his first time

In Red: the House tellers, *They* read the electoral votes after Pence hands it to them. This group is bipartisan with 2 Dems and 2 GOP reading them

I think the actual goal of January 6th for team Trump is to use it as a way to โ€œexposeโ€ GOP senators and reps who vote down objections.

No doubt potus wants to primary a bunch of gop senators. January 6th is a useful event that helps him in that regard

2021-01-03 08:11:23 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #general-chat]

I think at some point Mitch will get the senators to stop objecting if multiple objection votes fail

Some House republicans come out against the effort to object

NEW: GOP conference chair Liz Cheney comes out against the effort to decertify

Update: Senator Roy blunt (R-MO) is against the effort to decertify as well

BREAKING NEWS: Tom cotton will not vote to reject electors

2021-01-04 06:30:15 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

The only difference is the trump to teams goal Is to get the election overturned. When Barbara boxer joined in objecting to Ohioโ€™s electoral votes in 2004 she explicitly said the purpose of her objection was not to overturn the election

2021-01-04 06:30:34 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

But youโ€™re right in saying it will all work itself out

2021-01-04 06:31:52 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

There was no mechanism to overturn the election that dems pursued. Getting rid of Donald Trump makes Mike pence (the duly elected Vice President) the president

2021-01-04 06:32:14 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

The comparison would fit if it make Hillary Clinton or Tim Kaine the president

2021-01-04 06:32:58 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

The American people elected Donald Trump president and Mike pence the VP to replace him if anything happened

2021-01-04 06:33:55 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

You are right the talk of a coup is over the top

2021-01-04 06:36:24 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

In my opinion the talk of a coup would only be legitimate if Mike Pence declared Donald Trump re-elected without going through the process of electoral objections. I donโ€™t think one man should decide who the president should be.

(Nor do I think pence will do any of that)

2021-01-04 06:39:45 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

The debate will certainly be interesting to watch even though we know what the outcome of the final house and senate chamber vote is.

2021-01-04 06:49:38 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

The evidence would need to be so damming that it gets democrats to support rejection of electors

2021-01-04 06:50:16 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

Is that possible? Yes, but I donโ€™t think even damming evidence would get enough dems to cross over

2021-01-04 06:51:28 UTC [RobertGrulerEsq #election2020]

All of the democrats in seats won by president trump by large margins lost re-election so the current democratic caucus is made up of dems from blue districts
