I think the problem (in the US, at least) with the American school system is that it tries to systematize a largely organic process (learning) and selects for managerial personalities to serve in administrative roles. I used to think that the issue with American public schooling was a lack of standardization, but now I'm inclined to think it's an excess of it.

@Dr.Wol Yeah I look back on my childhood and I get the sense my mom only really took care out of me out of an overwhelming sense of guilt and shame. I say that because during any sort of turmoil she'd go from being my mom to a complete stranger. I've had the cops called on me at least 3 times by her during an argument. I think the moral panic surrounding pedophilia is worse than pedophilia itself. That isn't to discount child sex trafficking, but I just consider that a part of a larger human trafficking problem

I know a guy whose life is essentially ruined because he possessed child pornography. He never touched any kids, he just had files on a hard drive and that was enough to end him. Now he can't work a regular job or even go near a public place or school.
