@kcon415 as a convert from Christianity to Possibilianism (agnostic), I used to speak in tongues and I still can. Idk what that means for Christian theology, but I'm 100% certain there's an untestible explanation that makes sense to people who believe in such things.
If unnecessary suffering is evil, and conscious existence is commonly needless suffering... well, I've heard some argue no longer procreating as a species is the most moral thing we can do, that or all die peacefully in our sleep in the same night.
Not promoting these ideas. Just sharing them for perspective.
@kaizen Living has potential for pleasure in the future. It's not what we observe in the present, and there's no guarantee it will ever change. Saying it's neutral is to hold certain expectations that are unfounded.
I have heard your argument from Sam Harris though.
Just yesterday I had a Christian telling me that God's truth is above all human understanding, therefore we must believe it regardless of any evidence that appears to contradict it. It's all fine and good to believe that, but if you're wrong, then you'd never be able to correct your belief.
If the truth someone believes in is defined such that its not possible to correct it, then I'm not interested, because I actually care about what is true, be it Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, or someone/thing else.
Jesus is true b/c the Bible says so, and we know the Bible is true because 1 Peter says so in the Bible, so there. ๐
@JPMcGlone I was being funny, not presenting your argument. Although I've heard others use that before.
It's sad such things are true, but what does that have to do with BLM right now? I'm focused on the US (where Sowell is), and won't speak for other countries. My grandma knew people in the KKK. Those kinds of cultural conditions have had an impact on people living today.
I suggest we look for the *valid* concerns the BLM movement as a whole raises and address those concerns. I keep hearing people discount the whole group as if they have no valid concerns, and it bothers me. I'm against the solutions the movement suggests and disagree on some of the fundamental beliefs, but I think it's important to build bridges.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but people who have a similar son color to me being slaves in the Ottoman Empire appears to have negligible effects on the socioeconomic status of Americans such as Sowell himself. I don't understand why this specific quote is relevant to BLM in the US which he appears to be commenting on. Can someone please clarify why this quote is relevant?
Why can't a T-Rex clap?
Because it's extinct.
@m.miller interested in Among Us? Yes, but not sure if I can commit to joining on any particular day
Epistemology is the study of knowledge, in particular as opposed to opinion. Evangelism is where people try to persuade others to another viewpoint, especially a Christian one.
I met some Mormon missionaries back when I rode my bike to work. They were really nice people. I attended their church the last day they were there before going back to Utah. Their churches are really cool actually. No paid staff and no pastor, for example.
I have the app but only watched it played

For those here earlier, my apologies. All the fire alarms started going off down stairs, and later I noticed I'd turned on my camera. Everything was fine. Just my roommate cooking apparently.
Re the voice chat...
Isaiah 9:6 calls the prophesied child will be "Mighty God". In Hebrew, it uses a name that is reserved for God. El Gibor iirc.
John 10:33 suggests Jesus did claim to be God.
There old testament and new testament references
I know a ton of anti vaxxers from all over, but none that go that far.
