The Shah was a brutal dictator who repressed the domestic population and opened Iranian oil production to heavily favor western capitalists

The citizens were surveiled constantly and their civil and human rights violated constantly

Then there was a Muslim uprising as one of the few places the Shah didn’t have surveillance were in the Mosques 

The Shah was then overthrown and replaced with the now Ayatola

And that is why the United States has such a rocky relationship with Iran in the first place
