@ubermensch There isn't any value. The point of all automation is basically to reduce the need of employees. If the factory floor is operated entirely by robots, then you don't need the same amount of maintenance guys to keep the robots working as you would've needed factory workers in the past.

I think the example of the farmer is a useful one to this proble. One farmer with one tractor and combine harvester can plow the same area of crop fields that required hundreds of farmhands in the past.

Even with a giant automation industry, some employees will still be necessary. Coming from a lot of different maintenance and factory jobs myself, I can tell you that it doesn't matter how advanced the automation gets. You'll always need a guy with a big stick whacking the machinery to get it working again when it grinds to a halt for whatever reason.

But what automation definitely will lead to is mass unemployment for most labourers.

So either we go full communist and "seize the means of production" of the capitalist oligarchs who own the automated industries

Also, it's not just labourers jobs that are on the line. I see a pretty grim future for the economists, stock brokers and investment bankers as well. It's gonna be hard to compete in the field of "investment decision making" when your competition is composed of high powered supercomupers that can analyze the entire global market in the fraction of a second.

Advertisers are basically the religious snake oil salesmen who promise an increase in sales with their recipe of marketing campaigns. But none of them can really prove that their work actually increase sales at all (or that a lack of a flashy, expensive marketing campaign would DECREASE sales)

But the "faith" in advertisement is so strong in most markets, that the advertisement industry can survive on faith alone it seems.

Heard the strangest thing today. A muslim was calling in to a radio talkshow, and this is state run radio. He was lamenting the fact that the mainstream are so worried about "offending muslims" for maintaining and celebrating a traditional, christian holiday.
