i feel good because i ran for 20 mins yesterday while my wife and baby walked (well, he relaxed in the stroller), and she actually ran with him for the last 6 mins. i'll do some weightlifting tomorrow and then monday i'll start conditioning for those sprinting routines with the baseline @EliteBeret was talking about
i won't lie, and i'm sure you're all gonna laugh or whatever, but i normally keep a .22lr rifle loaded and ready since it has no recoil, no ear-deafening blasts, and it takes magazines. that said, my EDC of .40sw and .38 revolvers do lay around close-by since they're EDC.
for the moment, because of my worry about people going crazy during the coronavirus thing if the power gets shutdown or whatever, i have upgraded the HD to an AR-15 with weapon light, holosun 503g with ACSS, primary arms gen 4 flip-up 3x magnifier, iron sights, and vertical grip. i figured that if people get into "roving bands", i'll be more likely to have home invaders with more gear than usual
i think that would also be solid. i've got 2 of those
a synthetic one? do you mean plastic or just the Express in general? i bought one of my 870s used as a deer/field combo for 450 when new they were like 550-600 (i was less-knowledgeable with gun pricing and got taken a little there but not too bad). then i bought another Express from PSA for under 300 (maybe it was 250?) when they had an amazing deal going on, and it's a newer one after Remington fixed their issues with QC on the finish
that one that was a deer/field combo has been upgraded with a magpul sga stock/forend, weapon camera (for deer/turkey hunting vids), a 3rd barrel with cantilever mount and sig sauer 1-4x tango4 mrad, and a custom spray paint job that makes it disappear in the woods
i've taken deer on it with open sights at 110 meters. shotguns are very capable
@Vin_Farren yeah, i figured nearly 0 criminals wore plates since i don't think most of them could plan ahead like that
@Jevans0119 well if you're talking about something nicer than the Express model, 500'ish probably isn't bad
don't blame you. i don't own one because i want it in .40sw and PCCs are generally expensive.
same. i have personally not noticed recoil differences between 9 and 40. they supposedly exist, and i'm sure they do, but i have some guns that are the same model in both calibers, and i can't personally feel the difference
my main EDC when i'm wearing "proper clothes" is an MP40 Shield 2.0 with streamlight tlr-6 laser/light (only got it with laser because there was a deal making it same price as light-only). i don't have it in 9mm to compare, but possibly it's a little snappier
in these times when i'm always chilling at home in shorts (or nothing), i throw a Ruger LCR .357 (with .38 spl) in a pocket if i want to go on a walk around the block
which kids are hurting me with their bikes?
i'll tell their moms
@EliteBeret is your plan to escape from the cuffs and get out of the police car and run into the field Reno 911-style?
@Vin_Farren they don't have respect when you're wearing a military outfit? shit, when i was a kid, i _loved_ seeing military folks
they always let me touch their huge demo weapons at the state fair
wait, why is that? do you have some special relationship or something?
@Vin_Farren you said "on base". i figured you wore a military outfit when you went to work (e.g. active duty)
i mean you said "on post". sorry, i took it as something else
just so i know, does this happen when you walk along some scenic forest trail or something?
ah ok
the kids around here don't run into us. they just ride around
but if i see one coming, i could light 'em up just to let 'em know who's boss
when you see my Netflix special someday, you'll know it was me
yeah
it was my lame attempt at a joke, where i kill a kid and then a Netflix special like "The Making of a Murderer" airs
don't worry. it wasn't a very funny joke
no no. i nearly joined and never did. my dad was a police officer. but i'm a software engineer who uses guns and hunts
ya, i live near antigun chicago and travel nearly 4.5 hours to our farm (in IL near MO/IL/IA borders) to hunt. they're much more cool with anything gun-related down there
our plan is to get RE rental portfolio built up in the next 5 years and then move to St. Louis for a while (we already have a rental house there), and then get more and buy a farm in northeast MO, which will put it near our IL farms
and we'll move to that farm in MO
yeah, but on the flip side, chicago likes giving its money away
i just mean chicago pays really well. and we own a home that wasn't too expensive so we get the suburb life and all that.
this particular collar-county is gun-friendly
my wife and baby
this suburb is okay... we love our st. louis home much better, and we love st. louis so much more. but i'm not ready to ask my work to let me work remotely yet
word
@Vin_Farren do you do "tours of duty"? like go out and do (or have done) combat roles?
oh okay. yeah, i was asking your general role i guess. i didn't know if you went out on missions now or in the past to pop some thots (that hostile over there)
(garand thumb reference)
that's what i thought @King. . my wife could _probably_ handle it since she's gone deer hunting with me and will actually _do_ some of that hunting when she gets her hunting permit when the baby is a little older. but 1) i _hate_ loud noise like a 5.56 puts out, and 2) our baby would be so scared, and even if i'm popping thots, i wouldn't want him remembering that
or getting hearing damage
thanks @Vin_Farren . that's quite interesting
@KVLTVRE suppressors aren't legal in my state. but... if i do need to boog, i've got everything to build a professional-level suppressor for anything in the .22 caliber range in like 30 minutes or so
that's why we'll move to MO someday
one good reason to stay in IL for now is lower long-term capital gains taxes. and i do a lot of investing so it's a decent benefit
@EliteBeret that's a good idea. i'm way too lazy / cheap to want to replace all my interior doors though
@King. ya. i'm just find with standard velocity .22lr for inside-the-house. and even for ultimate boog'ing, i don't think anyone will hear a .22lr outside 100m in the woods. hell, it might be less distance than that, because they're just not that loud
@King. regarding the MPX, i do want to get one of those someday. garand thumb made me hard when he talked about it recently. i just wish it came in .40 also
imagine taking that thing, folding it, and putting it in your bag
i like .40. more energy than 9mm
(i'm not saying 9mm isn't enough. it's just my preference)
huh? basllistics charts i've seen have the .40 clearly having more KE
that'd be nice in the winter tho
when that happens, i guess the only solution is to make youtube vids from inside your home, shooting at them. people would love it
and the views and ad revenue could buy you new windows
huh? out of a 4" barrel, the general ballistics graphs i'm finding have 9mm about 100 ftlb less than .40sw:
http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/9luger.html and http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/40sw.html (click on the muzzle energy graphs at top)
if you're talking about "at distance", i'm not entirely sure
it's okay. i could believe that perhaps at extended ranges the 9mm has better energy. i'm also retarded
for legitimately boog'ing, i would take _all_ of my weapons and ammo in my pickup truck, drive to our farm, and immediately put all the weapons in my house while i normally walk around with my best .22lr rifle for hunting small game
but in texas, they can see you all the way across the desert!
if boog starts, come up here to IL/IA/MO area. we've got ridiculous forest cover, and winter wars would be awesome
@Vin_Farren we will await your sick ass parachute jump in
@daddy vladdy right on. i see you're in OR. every youtube video i see of that place makes it look like a magical land
if boog kicks off, i'm just going to the farm because i know people there, and they are all hunters
plus i have heavy equipment at the farm
what is portland really like? is it actually like YT videos where antifa walks out in the open and beats people over the head?
that is so beautiful
you should meet up with Paul Harrell for the boog
good good
really?!
and i bet you were just walking in regular clothes, not even military stuff, right?
i thought antifa was mostly just gang-bangers anyway
@EliteBeret when you say attack, do you just mean verbally assault?
omg. i would've ground-pounded them for that
yeah. both sides can get crazy. but being hit for just wearing something you agree with is wrong
oh, you were 12. i get you. i'm sorry
yeah. also you were 12. what were they thinking for punching you?
"imma show them right wing a-holes. imma punch a child."
i would love to chat more, but my wife is calling me. i need to do errands anyway
ttyl
gun store told me that was an EDC.
i find it best not to compare 38-year-old-self to when i was 23-year-old-self. it seems that as time goes on, on average, i am more fit than my peers. i can't run 3 miles quickly, but at least i can run 3 miles and do it reasonably okay.
thanks! i would like to run 5 miles, but i've been too lazy to try and train for it
at least you have run it on a treadmill, if i'm understanding correctly? i am _worse_ at running on a treadmill, because of the boredom, i think
FOB? i am going to guess that stands for forward operating base or something?
also, i get you. i woudln't run to run the same area 5 times. we've got some pretty state parks here than i can run regularly and see deer and birds and things
i want to visit AK so badly. that place sounds magical
oh, yeah. i do love the outdoors (if i'm hunting or "working" outside)
what do you hunt?
yeah, i meant AK, but i guess in WA
very cool. the biggest we've got here is white-tailed deer. someday, probably before my mid-40s, i'd like to get elk tags for Arizona or something like that and go on a week-long excursion. would love to go with a friend to hike the mountains and stalk them until we can get them
maybe practice some survival skills with camping outside there
florida has all the cool turkeys
when we get some farm land in MO, i kind of want there to be a bit of a hog problem just so i can have a reason to go out and eradicate them at night
"Honey, if I sleep in tomorrow, it's because I was outside doing military ops against the hog invaders."
well, they normally run away, i think, but yeah, they're dangerous
and they root up all the things that get grown for people food
you probably want at least an AR for them
