hammock requires two trees, gotta be strong, gotta be high off the ground, all kinds of stuff

sleeping bag is less comfortable but it’s better for surviving and sleeping fuckin anywhere

they make tiny ass sleeping bags tho

look think of it this way. i’m an eagle scout and i LOVE hammock camping

however, i never sleep in a hammock overnight without a sleeping pad and a sleeping bag

so you can spend money on one and have it be good quality or spend money on both and have em both be kinda shit

exactly. hammocks are tiny to pack, sure, but that’s because they do less for you than an emergency heating blanket made of foil

which brings me to my next point: get a space blanket

the idea is that you’d lay the shiny side of the foil down and it reflects what body heat you have back at you while trapping lots of other heat

google it, shit’s neat

now i will say this for hammocks: the ground is the #1 stealer of your body heat in any situation. if the only thing between you and the ground is a sleeping bag, you’ll be miserable

so if you can get even a thin blanket of some kind or literally even a bed of pine needles set up, you negate like half that effect

that’s where a pad comes in

here’s the other thing

it sounds like what you’ve put into your bag thus far is short term survival stuff. that’s great for a small pack, but there’s a couple things i’d add to your list that aren’t bad to procure.

1.) trash bag

trash bags can be emergency sleeping bags, emergency water bottles, they can keep your gear and more importantly your food and water away from animals and they’re cheap and easy to find

2.) basic firestarter (not just lighter fluid) and a trustworthy lighter

basic kindling can come from hoarding dryer lint. stuff burns light and easy and it’s not all that valuable anyway

kvltvre final thing i’ll say for the bag that you probably already know is twofold. get an old boy scout handbook, and get extra underwear and socks

handbook has everything from survival stuff to firebuilding to morse code to lashings and in a pinch it’s flammable
