Morning everyone, the response from Renaldo was to be expected. He doesn't get that his video on #BlackMonday was what set me and many others on the path we are currently on. I will make an official response but I'm afraid it will make him look even worse, many people missed a vital statement made in parliament in the days following BlackMonday and the videos are there for anyone to see/make up their own minds.

To all the snipes in this server, don't worry, I'll be pasting this his his server. @Renaldo, the video is not about you, you just happened to be the person with the best quality video that echoed the "sit down and shut up, nobody cares" narrative.

People wore black to create awareness... it did. You said it would be a waste of time... it wasn't. Thank God nobody listened to you.

I suggest you leave Anarchy Acres and Fatal Fields for a while and go visit an actual farm, stay over for a few days, experience the constant tension and then we can have a proper conversation.

Tripple Bonus Fact, BlackMonday was very much supported by Afriforum:

What started out as a plea from a close friend of a farmer recently killed in Klapmuts, outside Cape Town, for South Africans to wear black on Monday, to show they have had enough of the scourge of farm murders turned into a racially charged debate which played itself out on social media and other platforms.

Chris Loubserโ€™s video that went viral depicted his heartbreak after Joubert Conradie, a 47-year-old wine farmer, was killed by armed robbers just hours before South Africaโ€™s annual crime statistics were released.

Dubbed #BlackMonday, the protest gained support from AfriForum, a civil rights group, agricultural unions, and the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and political parties, among others.

Highways were blocked off across the country as farmers used their lorries, trucks and tractors to force a glo slow for motorists in a bid to have their pleas heard.

Placards reading โ€” Stop Farm Murders, Staan op teen plaasmoorder (stand up against farm murders, and even crosses bearing the words โ€˜Rest in Peaceโ€™ were carried as thousands raised their alarm.

These protests have been mirrored by many abroad, this is where it started.

@AndeB hard to respond to a straw man, not a statement I've ever made but let me guess, you somehow believe you can read people's minds...

@renaldo

PS: Listen to the last 10 seconds of the video, that should give you your answer.

@renaldo, just like Snowflake, Snowball holds some meaning other than just being ice

2018-09-19 09:48:31 UTC [Cheers and Peace Out #general]

@Renaldo, funny how just about everyone else I talked to understood how despite the naysayers, threats from various parties incl. the govt the farming community INCLUDING THEIR WORKERS AND MANY BLACK PEOPLE stood in solidarity to make a spectacle that the world could not ignore. Yes, people still died afterward, we live in the real world and you can't just magically make things stop but it had a real and tangible effect and many. many people all around the world supported it.

2018-09-19 09:51:07 UTC [Cheers and Peace Out #general]

@Renaldo, you seem to not grasp that in your own words you said that the world doesn't "give a shit", you were wrong.

2018-09-19 09:52:17 UTC [Cheers and Peace Out #general]

@Meerkat_RSA sure, what did his tweet say?

2018-09-19 10:36:54 UTC [Cheers and Peace Out #general]

@Laurynne Gouws Hi Laurynne, are you aware of the international campaigns the ANC ran to garner international support that eventually brought down the Apartheid government? In his video Renaldo clearly states that he does not care what people think of him due to his statements on BlackMonday, is this still his stance? What exactly is the problem now?

International scrutiny would be the best thing that can happen to SA, literally everyone except the corrupt would benefit should the international community start asking questions, it starts with farm murders but ends up with questions like "why exactly is the crime rate so high?" leading to the discussion of poverty which, in turn, turns into "where is the money disappearing to?" "Why were the Komandos (who patrolled and secured the rural/farming communities) disbanded?"

Just like charity starts at home, you start with the issues closest to you, the ones you are most passionate about. Being passionate about one thing does not diminish the importance of the other. I don't condemn people protesting violence against women and children because "all violence is bad".

Perhaps you can afford to go abroad and lobby, I can't. But I appreciate your attempt to dissuade, it encourages and inspires because if "change" means losing the last Afrikaans schools, over 100 race-based labour laws, open discrimination against a minority, the expropriation of property based on the colour of skin and the constant browbeating then I say oppose that "change" and would rather fight for something that benefits ALL of South Africa.

2018-09-19 10:48:01 UTC [Cheers and Peace Out #general]

@Meerkat_RSA Almost like you can't blame people who are too young to have ever voted for Apartheid for the laws that were enacted by a government decades ago?

2018-09-19 11:04:59 UTC [Cheers and Peace Out #general]

@Laurynne Gouws "To me, that's Renaldo and the fact that you used a cutting from his video from October 2017 and merged it with footage taken over the course of the last few months and and cry "Look this guy is against us and our cause" is the problem."

You are getting warmer, look how far we've come. Hasn't Renaldo expressed that some of his views/opinions have changed in the past few months? Do you see me attacking you or even being slightly impolite? In fact I respect anyone who stands with his/her significant other, this is the root of the argument I posited. Think about that.

I don't know about you but, "all murder is bad" is the inherent, default and obvious stance of everyone I know and that obviously includes myself.

I could ask you to explain some of your statement but I know that would not be productive. Thank you for a civil interaction, I wish these were the conversations being fed in comments right now.

2018-09-19 11:48:58 UTC [Cheers and Peace Out #general]

@Laurynne Gouws Farce you say? Just strange that if you look at international outlets that reported on it and the events that followed all refer back to BlackMonday. The protests in Australia, Poland and many other countries are direct copies and obviously influenced by the events that took place in SA. It is repressed but you can find people marching with the words STOP PLAASMOORDE all around the world. Just because you haven't seen a thing does not mean it doesn't exist.

You ascribe all sorts of motivations yet he said what he said and I'm happy for him to state his opinion, he was wrong and that's fine. So let me spell it out:

WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE MANNER AND NUMBERS IN WHICH FARMERS ARE BEING MURDERED, SOME SAID THAT PROTESTING WOULD AMOUNT TO NOTHING BUT... THEY WERE WRONG.

Renaldo has on occasion expressed that he will be "on the first flight out" once certain things happen, we don't all have that privilege and excuse me if I and others refuse to go gentle into that good night.

Oh, @Renaldo Dutton was asked and he explicitly said that he was concerned about the amount of farmers being murdered, Trump's tweet instructed Pompeo to look into land seizures AND large scale killings of farmers...

See y'all later, have a good one.

@Laurynne Gouws "retreat", interesting choice of words.

2018-09-19 12:11:28 UTC [Cheers and Peace Out #general]

@Laurynne Gouws I'd say that saying goodbye is a, in fact, a tactic... to end a conversation because of loss of interest or(*) other pressing matters. I'd also say that responding to a greeting by referring to it as a "retreat" is also a tactic, just not a nice one. The neurolinguistic implications are obvious, saw it coming though. On changing the subject you lost me, never even thought of changing the subject. But really, nothing more to be said about this and anything more would not be constructive. Cheers, again, have a good day.
