Watching it right after this
Cotton picked from machines and not a groups of chocolate Americans
grats!
there are still many of us who haven't, don't be sad
grats on the incoming kid!
Rubin or Benjamin?
I haven't watched the video, but I do think that religion plays/played a big part in the formation of morality
There is truth to that
but there have also been 2000 years of Abrahamic religion shaping thought in the West
Not saying that religion is 100%, but it certainly is a good chunk
okay 5000 years
sorry
should have said Christian ๐
religion in my mind is a product of civilization
if youre living with a few others, in a tight knit group, there isn't a need for ritual or belief to keep the cohesion
The larger the group, the more you need a common factor to keep everyone in line
i should ask what you consider a typical hunter/gatherer group size to be?
hmm I take back my opinion then
I can see how religion can form even in small groups
I agree
shamanism too
birds lack a concept of belief
I think it's to help facilitate meaning in order to make life worthwhile
or perhaps each tree is a lesser spirit under the guidance of a forest god
misunderstood?
gotcha
and religion does require worship
but do the birds actively worship a rain god in hopes he will grant them a blessing?
yeah beliefs and religion are not genetic
it would be a behavioral adaptation
a lot of what drives animals to do what they do is instinct
instinct
its like salmon spawning season
religion requires the ability to abstract
yeah thats instinct
well we cant study thought
or consciousness
I think the desire to believe in something greater is ingrained in humanity. Thats why Nietzsche said that with the death of god, humanity needs to find it's own purpose
consciousness is not the same as instinct
but how do you know the birds believe in a rain god
perhaps is the god of harvest?
how can we prove that birds know the rain is what causes the worms to rise?
maybe they just take advantage of the situation
yeah and there is no need for belief for that to be true
there is no evidence that birds teach each other things
bird parents do not teach a fledgling to fly
Birds dont have a concept of behavior
they know parents, self, children, and others
knowledge is not passed down
but the flock does not teach
the flock is there for instinctual reasons
religion requires belief in a god or gods, there is no way to prove that birds believe in a god or gods, let alone if they can even conceptualize what a god is
belief in a greatest good could be considered religion
but that requires belief
im not talking about birds
again, religion and belief are purly human conceptions
but heirarchies aren't beliefs
heirarchies are social status
and social species have been around for millenia
you cannot say there are heriarchies in sponges
no heriarchies do not require belief
you are a small wolf, there are other wolves but they are all larger
therefore you are bottom wolf
no belief necessary
there is no belief behind knowing one is better than another
how about a 200m race
5 people run it and they all come in different places
this is a heirarchy
animals dont necessarily choose
they instinctually go for whoever is at the top of the heirarchy
hyenas dont need to run
they rely on packs and strong jaws to get a kill
it would be like saying cheetahs choose speed over strength
they dont choose it, it's the attribute they find most appealing
no because there is no belief behind it
thats etomology
i fail to see the connection
and a jellyfish isn't actually a fish
you are arguing semantics
no
no its not
no its not
religion is the belief in gods or god
if an animal falls ill, does it believe demons have infected it?
birds dont think
no they dont
birds do not think
they act on instinct
a bird doesn't go, I'm going to wake up in the morning and sing, then I'll get some food and sing some more
have you been drinking?
wait, who said anything about being conservative
I'm a purple haired SJW that identifies as a toaster and youve just triggered me
i stopped watching her and armoured back in the whole candid debaucle
there was a social media app that was all about free speech and they gave paid sponsorships to those who would talk good things
turns out candid was censoring and stuff
but armoured and shoe defended it
I had been losing interest in Armoured at the time anyway
and I didn't care for shoe to begin with, although I love her patriarchy skit with the Trump mask
I was when I was in high school
lmao poor guy ๐
