2019-06-12 20:36:21 UTC [domek #general-english]

how does one respond to that

2019-06-12 20:38:49 UTC [domek #general-english]

@epi heyyy thank you for the warm welcome I hope we will get along well โค

2019-06-12 20:40:18 UTC [domek #general-english]

what do roles stand for, is there, like, a faq, or something?

2019-06-12 20:42:22 UTC [domek #general-english]

@รœltraรœberGรถttKรถnig so I'm restricted from posting pics? The rules don't seem to really clarify the role stuff.

2019-06-12 20:43:12 UTC [domek #general-english]

Do colors get assigned randomly or stand for something meaningful?

2019-06-12 20:45:29 UTC [domek #bot-zone]

$color set #1F85DE

2019-06-12 20:45:54 UTC [domek #general-english]
2019-06-12 20:46:53 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik thanks, I'll tell a bit later once I get familiar with the server

2019-06-12 20:47:59 UTC [domek #general-english]

@รœltraรœberGรถttKรถnig it's my favourite color, a bit darker than one on the top stripe of the Estonian flag and more saturated than on the Arch logo

2019-06-12 20:48:44 UTC [domek #general-english]

nah I still messed it up a bit

2019-06-12 20:49:18 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik didn't quite catch that, I had the Arch linux distribution in mind

2019-06-12 20:51:07 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik I stopped using Arch linux in 2012, after they messed up /usr/ (does discord support markdown, btw?) and pulverized their ncurses installer, and then, after they dropped out BSD style initialization, I could nothing but forget about it forever

2019-06-12 20:52:47 UTC [domek #general-english]

@epi you can always set up whatever fonts you like, guess you're pretty much aware of that

2019-06-12 20:53:34 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik it's more about the BSD style init itself, it was pleasant to configure and it worked generally quite smoothly

2019-06-12 20:54:10 UTC [domek #general-english]

@epi font rendering in the blink engine does differ on various platforms indeed, sadly

2019-06-12 20:55:47 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik speaking for desktops users, there shouldn't be much issue with systemd as it works fine, but among linux users, preferences play huge role, and one's free to rant on whatever doesn't fit one's religious beliefs

2019-06-12 20:55:59 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik estonian

2019-06-12 20:57:20 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik it's totally fine you don't seem to accept dogmatism or irrational preferenes in software

2019-06-12 20:57:32 UTC [domek #general-english]

as long as it works, everything is fine

2019-06-12 20:57:45 UTC [domek #general-english]

I thought mentioning will point at the specific message, sorry for abusing it

2019-06-12 20:58:40 UTC [domek #general-english]

@รœltraรœberGรถttKรถnig Hurd from Scratch is the only option for grown up men

2019-06-12 20:58:48 UTC [domek #general-english]

change my mind

2019-06-12 20:59:25 UTC [domek #general-english]

that's a somewhat Polish thing to say

2019-06-12 21:00:45 UTC [domek #general-english]

by measuring how much pyrys you can eat in a minute?

2019-06-12 21:01:29 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik especially in the HIV rates and social security non-existence

2019-06-12 21:01:45 UTC [domek #general-english]

@rogalik pyry is not just potatoes

2019-06-12 21:02:37 UTC [domek #general-english]

Estonia's (II republic) first leaders in the 90s were basically libertarian, a lot of people from their elite even are members of some US libertarian organizations, like Mart Laar

2019-06-12 21:02:58 UTC [domek #general-english]

@epi you can do everything online even in the most backward shitholes of Europe

2019-06-12 21:03:53 UTC [domek #general-english]

@epi yet you probably have access to 99% of government services in the Internet

2019-06-12 21:04:46 UTC [domek #general-english]

@epi you're always free to enjoy a 1200โ‚ฌ brutto monthly salary then

2019-06-12 21:05:21 UTC [domek #general-english]

with a rent rate of a small apartment of 700โ‚ฌ and 200โ‚ฌ additionally for central heating

2019-06-12 21:06:06 UTC [domek #general-english]

or renting an old unrenovated apartment in Russian areas for 500โ‚ฌ, but be ready for your head to be hit with an empty glass bottle

2019-06-12 21:15:42 UTC [domek #general-english]

I wasn't speaking about myself

2019-06-12 21:16:19 UTC [domek #general-english]

and I specified it's brutto wage

2019-06-12 21:16:46 UTC [domek #general-english]

luckily, taxes in Estonia are one of the lowest in Europe

2019-06-12 21:18:22 UTC [domek #general-english]

the prices are much higher than in the rest of Eastern Europe

2019-06-12 21:18:29 UTC [domek #general-english]

thanks to euro

2019-06-12 21:18:51 UTC [domek #general-english]

heard recently KE wants to boost Poland's entrance in the euro zone

2019-06-12 21:19:09 UTC [domek #general-english]

hope Poles will be wise enough not to fall in this misery

2019-06-12 21:23:00 UTC [domek #general-english]

the introduction of euro in the Baltic states rapidly made everyone poorer and as these countries didn't really recover from the Great Recession, it slowed their growth even further

2019-06-12 21:23:13 UTC [domek #general-english]

can't say anything about Slovakia, though

2019-06-12 21:24:04 UTC [domek #general-english]

GDP growth doesn't make you richer

2019-06-12 21:24:23 UTC [domek #general-english]

all goods became less affordable at once

2019-06-12 21:25:21 UTC [domek #general-english]

^ this

2019-06-12 21:25:54 UTC [domek #general-english]

not Western Europe, but Germany specifically

2019-06-12 21:26:52 UTC [domek #general-english]

you don't need anything to say

2019-06-12 21:27:24 UTC [domek #general-english]

are regular economics alternative now

2019-06-12 21:30:05 UTC [domek #general-english]

I specifically stated the introduction to euro made consumer goods less affordable, therefore rendering the population poorer -- whatever GDP growth rates are present, the purchasing power is much more relevant

2019-06-12 21:31:42 UTC [domek #general-english]

GDP PPP of Russia and Poland matched before 2014, sometimes Russia even surpassed Poland, yet I don't really need to point out which country was doing better

2019-06-12 21:33:34 UTC [domek #general-english]

yet that explanation will be irrelevant in relation to you not being comfortable with my statement about poverty and introduction to euro in Baltic states

2019-06-12 21:33:49 UTC [domek #general-english]

simple as

2019-06-12 21:34:05 UTC [domek #general-english]

not being aggressive or something

2019-06-12 21:35:54 UTC [domek #general-english]

the point was about dynamics of both, my initial statement referred to poverty increasing while GDP continues to grow

2019-06-12 21:37:11 UTC [domek #general-english]

the >country (not people) reference was the reason I clarified my statement later

2019-06-12 21:37:22 UTC [domek #general-english]

and since then, we were arguing about the warm and the soft

2019-06-12 21:37:36 UTC [domek #general-english]

i.e. about essentially different stuff

2019-06-12 21:37:50 UTC [domek #general-english]

not sure whether people say something like that outside a certain country

2019-06-12 21:38:33 UTC [domek #general-english]

there are obviously numerous different reasons, sometimes non-straightforward as fuck

2019-06-12 21:40:12 UTC [domek #general-english]

the introduction of euro is something that can work out for a country, or not -- and the case of Baltic states and quite honestly, Finland, is the latter

2019-06-12 21:40:58 UTC [domek #general-english]

no, it's not psychological, the prices in kroon, lats and litas after the introduction did rise up to 25%

2019-06-12 21:41:25 UTC [domek #general-english]

@MrJack that before euro time could easily be the crisis in 1989-199x

2019-06-12 21:41:48 UTC [domek #general-english]

which hit Finland so hard it haven't recovered to present day

2019-06-12 21:43:17 UTC [domek #general-english]

these problems have no relation to the introduction of euro in 2011, 2013, and 2015

2019-06-12 21:43:26 UTC [domek #general-english]

in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania respectively

2019-06-12 21:44:45 UTC [domek #general-english]

the countries were slowly recovering and people were getting richer, but then, I have to repeat myself, at once, in one night, everything went up to 20% more expensive

2019-06-12 21:45:31 UTC [domek #general-english]

already mentioned above, 2011 in Estonia, 2013 in Latvia, 2015 in Lithuania

2019-06-12 21:46:14 UTC [domek #general-english]

yes, exactly, said it initially

2019-06-12 21:46:56 UTC [domek #general-english]

No.

2019-06-12 21:47:31 UTC [domek #general-english]

the wages in their kroon, lats and litas equivalent didn't rise

2019-06-12 21:47:34 UTC [domek #general-english]
