how does one respond to that
@epi heyyy thank you for the warm welcome I hope we will get along well โค
what do roles stand for, is there, like, a faq, or something?
@รltraรberGรถttKรถnig so I'm restricted from posting pics? The rules don't seem to really clarify the role stuff.
Do colors get assigned randomly or stand for something meaningful?
$color set #1F85DE
@rogalik oi
@rogalik thanks, I'll tell a bit later once I get familiar with the server
@รltraรberGรถttKรถnig it's my favourite color, a bit darker than one on the top stripe of the Estonian flag and more saturated than on the Arch logo
@ในใใผใชใผใฉใคใฟใผ hello!
nah I still messed it up a bit
@rogalik didn't quite catch that, I had the Arch linux distribution in mind
@rogalik I stopped using Arch linux in 2012, after they messed up /usr/ (does discord support markdown, btw?) and pulverized their ncurses installer, and then, after they dropped out BSD style initialization, I could nothing but forget about it forever
@epi you can always set up whatever fonts you like, guess you're pretty much aware of that
@rogalik it's more about the BSD style init itself, it was pleasant to configure and it worked generally quite smoothly
@epi font rendering in the blink engine does differ on various platforms indeed, sadly
@rogalik speaking for desktops users, there shouldn't be much issue with systemd as it works fine, but among linux users, preferences play huge role, and one's free to rant on whatever doesn't fit one's religious beliefs
@rogalik estonian
@rogalik it's totally fine you don't seem to accept dogmatism or irrational preferenes in software
as long as it works, everything is fine
I thought mentioning will point at the specific message, sorry for abusing it
@รltraรberGรถttKรถnig Hurd from Scratch is the only option for grown up men
change my mind
that's a somewhat Polish thing to say
by measuring how much pyrys you can eat in a minute?
@rogalik especially in the HIV rates and social security non-existence
@rogalik pyry is not just potatoes
Estonia's (II republic) first leaders in the 90s were basically libertarian, a lot of people from their elite even are members of some US libertarian organizations, like Mart Laar
@epi you can do everything online even in the most backward shitholes of Europe
@epi yet you probably have access to 99% of government services in the Internet
@epi you're always free to enjoy a 1200โฌ brutto monthly salary then
with a rent rate of a small apartment of 700โฌ and 200โฌ additionally for central heating
or renting an old unrenovated apartment in Russian areas for 500โฌ, but be ready for your head to be hit with an empty glass bottle
I wasn't speaking about myself
and I specified it's brutto wage
luckily, taxes in Estonia are one of the lowest in Europe
the prices are much higher than in the rest of Eastern Europe
thanks to euro
heard recently KE wants to boost Poland's entrance in the euro zone
hope Poles will be wise enough not to fall in this misery
the introduction of euro in the Baltic states rapidly made everyone poorer and as these countries didn't really recover from the Great Recession, it slowed their growth even further
can't say anything about Slovakia, though
GDP growth doesn't make you richer
all goods became less affordable at once
^ this
not Western Europe, but Germany specifically
you don't need anything to say
are regular economics alternative now
I specifically stated the introduction to euro made consumer goods less affordable, therefore rendering the population poorer -- whatever GDP growth rates are present, the purchasing power is much more relevant
GDP PPP of Russia and Poland matched before 2014, sometimes Russia even surpassed Poland, yet I don't really need to point out which country was doing better
yet that explanation will be irrelevant in relation to you not being comfortable with my statement about poverty and introduction to euro in Baltic states
simple as
not being aggressive or something
the point was about dynamics of both, my initial statement referred to poverty increasing while GDP continues to grow
the >country (not people) reference was the reason I clarified my statement later
and since then, we were arguing about the warm and the soft
i.e. about essentially different stuff
not sure whether people say something like that outside a certain country
there are obviously numerous different reasons, sometimes non-straightforward as fuck
the introduction of euro is something that can work out for a country, or not -- and the case of Baltic states and quite honestly, Finland, is the latter
no, it's not psychological, the prices in kroon, lats and litas after the introduction did rise up to 25%
@MrJack that before euro time could easily be the crisis in 1989-199x
which hit Finland so hard it haven't recovered to present day
these problems have no relation to the introduction of euro in 2011, 2013, and 2015
in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania respectively
the countries were slowly recovering and people were getting richer, but then, I have to repeat myself, at once, in one night, everything went up to 20% more expensive
already mentioned above, 2011 in Estonia, 2013 in Latvia, 2015 in Lithuania
yes, exactly, said it initially
No.
the wages in their kroon, lats and litas equivalent didn't rise
prices did
relations with their parents > race > personality > feet
