As long as he had the military and federal police supporting him (and presumably quickly set up some kind of paramilitary secret/political police) this is all within the realm of possibility.

Whether you see it as fulfilling your fashy fantasies or proving that "orange man is hitler" is inherently flawed, it's none the less interesting to think about.
