older style working man's anti-fascist commie

2017-03-17 22:16:38 UTC

but yeah, a commie

2017-03-17 22:16:55 UTC

weird times

2017-03-17 22:17:00 UTC

do craft unions still exist?

2017-03-17 22:17:44 UTC

Wagner is worse than all above mentioned

2017-03-17 22:20:25 UTC

agreed

2017-03-17 22:20:39 UTC

@Mosely what do you like about guthrie?

2017-03-17 22:20:49 UTC

Dick Wagner though, not Wagner Antichrist

2017-03-17 22:20:49 UTC

Tchaikovsky is the only certified Romanticist act for the Alt-Right

2017-03-17 22:21:09 UTC

Huh

2017-03-17 22:21:09 UTC

the milo of classical music

2017-03-17 22:21:23 UTC

im kidding

2017-03-17 22:21:29 UTC

or something

2017-03-17 22:21:31 UTC

what's for breakfast

2017-03-17 22:21:41 UTC

he's a Ceronovich at least

2017-03-17 22:21:55 UTC

2017-03-17 22:22:04 UTC

If Tchaikovsky is the soundtrack for the alt right I want nothing to do with the alt right

2017-03-17 22:22:08 UTC

it's a hit piece

2017-03-17 22:22:25 UTC

but it has some "nice" info

2017-03-17 22:23:15 UTC

I find it distressing that most people don't actually listen to music

2017-03-17 22:23:33 UTC

I have no idea how to cover the distance, make them realize the barrier

2017-03-17 22:23:36 UTC

between them and music

2017-03-17 22:24:21 UTC

this includes people who love music

2017-03-17 22:24:36 UTC

like my wife's english wasn't very good, and she watched english movies completely differently from say, me

2017-03-17 22:24:43 UTC

she enjoyed the experience

2017-03-17 22:24:48 UTC

but there was a certain automaticity to it

2017-03-17 22:24:54 UTC

like absent mindedly eating peanuts

2017-03-17 22:25:16 UTC

she wouldn't think there was anything wrong with getting up in the middle of the movie to get a drink or something, without pausing it with that facility available

2017-03-17 22:25:57 UTC

that's how most people (seem to me to) listen to music

2017-03-17 22:26:24 UTC

even now, it's not always I'm in a receptive state to give good music a fair chance

2017-03-17 22:26:32 UTC

the best I can do is quickly exclude shit

2017-03-17 22:27:19 UTC

the problem is, how do you motivate them to consider the experience important

2017-03-17 22:27:22 UTC

"it's just music man"

2017-03-17 22:27:45 UTC

the ones already into music but not properly listening may be harder

2017-03-17 22:27:47 UTC

to convince

2017-03-17 22:28:06 UTC

I would be happy with an approach for either group

2017-03-17 22:28:22 UTC

Just share how you feel about it

2017-03-17 22:28:26 UTC

Eventually some will get it

2017-03-17 22:28:28 UTC

right now my idea is something like kidnapping and psychoactive medication

2017-03-17 22:28:29 UTC

In some small way

2017-03-17 22:28:31 UTC

oh

2017-03-17 22:28:33 UTC

that's not a bad idea

2017-03-17 22:28:41 UTC

I'll do that after the LSD injections

2017-03-17 22:28:44 UTC

pour out my heart

2017-03-17 22:28:45 UTC

hahahaha

2017-03-17 22:29:18 UTC

I've resigned myself to most people never "getting it", which is fine

2017-03-17 22:29:26 UTC

their lives can still be meaningful and important

2017-03-17 22:29:31 UTC

it just seems a shame

2017-03-17 22:29:44 UTC

They would be more meaningful and important if they could be helped to see what was meaningful and important

2017-03-17 22:29:59 UTC

there is also the issue of if people can be shown

2017-03-17 22:30:36 UTC

I don't have many successes, the ones I do have are not ordinary people

2017-03-17 22:30:40 UTC

and I can't claim them for myself

2017-03-17 22:30:49 UTC

What do I like about Guthrie? Good question.
I enjoy folk music, usually. I like folk themes. They remind me of something
.
.
.

2017-03-17 22:30:54 UTC

I don't want to give platitudes, but I think people can be encouraged to have some understanding of the difference between musical content and lyrical content

2017-03-17 22:30:57 UTC

"forgotten"? I can't place the word.

2017-03-17 22:31:02 UTC

They have to give a fuck first

2017-03-17 22:31:19 UTC

All good music is essentially nostalgic in my opinion

2017-03-17 22:31:25 UTC

But I admit many of his recordings are not necessarily very rousing.

2017-03-17 22:31:46 UTC

all good music feels familiar, feels "just right"

2017-03-17 22:32:20 UTC

Eh

2017-03-17 22:32:35 UTC

The other Americana guy I was introduced to around the same time is Will Taylor.
He recorded his debut solo album with just his banjo and his voice.

2nd album had a full band, ruined it IMHO. Sounded like cheesy country dance hall.

2017-03-17 22:32:43 UTC

Good music feels like an extension of yourself but I wouldn't call it nostalgic

2017-03-17 22:33:34 UTC

It's the best word I had

2017-03-17 22:33:42 UTC

I don't mean it evokes nostalgia as an aesthetic

2017-03-17 22:33:52 UTC

all good music is half remembered

2017-03-17 22:33:53 UTC

that better?

2017-03-17 22:34:25 UTC

I was drunk last night wanting to wage war with anglos

2017-03-17 22:34:35 UTC

all art is divine

2017-03-17 22:34:42 UTC

Folk music treads through stories that aren't mine but they still feel half-remembered.

2017-03-17 22:34:56 UTC

of all the arts, music is the one with the most immediate link to transcendent experience

2017-03-17 22:34:58 UTC

I knew nothing of baseball as a boy but this song can put me over the edge.

2017-03-17 22:35:04 UTC

it's literally otherworldly

2017-03-17 22:35:28 UTC

Nostalgic reminds me of retro gaming and pulling out action figures out of a long forgotten chest

2017-03-17 22:35:32 UTC

even when worldly, it gives life meaning, so is transcendent in a way

2017-03-17 22:35:38 UTC

yeah, I don't mean it like that

2017-03-17 22:38:01 UTC

imagine if in 20 years, heavy metal is forgotten, forever

2017-03-17 22:38:07 UTC

the music remains, available and preserved

2017-03-17 22:38:14 UTC

but no one seeks it out

2017-03-17 22:38:19 UTC

until the end of time

2017-03-17 22:38:58 UTC

people at a certain point notice it as a sociological thing, make a study out of it

2017-03-17 22:39:03 UTC

but don't actually get into it

2017-03-17 22:40:11 UTC

no one would notice, no one would care, unheard, unsung

2017-03-17 22:40:49 UTC

that would be criminal I think

2017-03-17 22:40:54 UTC

humanity would have something to answer for

2017-03-17 22:45:26 UTC

I don't know

2017-03-17 22:45:51 UTC

I think most people in general don't feel music the same way we do

2017-03-17 22:46:02 UTC

So if it's left unsung, who cares?

2017-03-17 22:46:28 UTC

Leaves stuff to discover when we're older

2017-03-17 22:46:38 UTC

THAT MAKES IT ANTI-LEFTIST

2017-03-17 22:46:41 UTC

did you miss the end of time bit

2017-03-17 22:46:41 UTC

Like unpopular Franck works

2017-03-17 22:46:46 UTC

i like the simplicity of this statement

2017-03-17 22:46:48 UTC

profound

2017-03-17 22:47:06 UTC

End of time?

2017-03-17 22:47:11 UTC

There is no end of time

2017-03-17 22:47:21 UTC

Do you even transcendental Idealism?

2017-03-17 22:47:28 UTC

Come on maan
