Why wouldn't you just buy from a distributor or manufacturer direct? Why the 4th party?

2020-04-03 06:23:08 UTC

because the store has a huge stock and the items I want arent listed in the online store, and the staff cant be bothered to go look for what I want. And I cant get it anywhere else because its rare

2020-04-03 06:31:39 UTC

its perfectly legal btw

2020-04-03 09:24:41 UTC

Have you tried ebay?

2020-04-03 11:23:29 UTC

im not sure how trustworthy ebay sellers are

2020-04-03 11:26:29 UTC

I dont trust ebay much but I may yet try it for part of my order

2020-04-03 13:31:38 UTC

2020-04-10 18:54:43 UTC

pretty fantastic imo

2020-04-10 18:54:56 UTC

i love landscapes and stuff like this

2020-04-10 18:54:56 UTC

Yeah it is I love it

2020-04-10 18:55:41 UTC

It is amazing how they can make a small tree look like a giant

2020-04-10 18:56:21 UTC

the same raw material he uses I collected 3 of today, some 40 or so year old hedge english yews

2020-04-10 18:56:56 UTC

they would have been thrown away so i also saved them from the logpile more or less

2020-04-10 18:57:27 UTC

i cut them hard back, now let them grow for a few years and then do as he did here

2020-04-10 18:58:24 UTC

Im also amazed at the sheer monetary value he adds to those stumps

2020-04-10 18:59:19 UTC

starts with (for the untrained eye) trash and some time later you cant get it for less than 1k

2020-04-10 19:00:31 UTC

I used to watch videos of some bonsai school in japan a few years back. That stuff look super cool but I will probably not get into that stuff even though I have everything I need at hand. Just too worried about not watering it once and fucking it up.

2020-04-10 19:01:04 UTC

I am more into dead trees or wood working as it is also called.

2020-04-10 19:02:34 UTC

Im interested in that as a part of bonsai but I would not be into it on its own because I want a living and changing subject

2020-04-10 19:03:25 UTC

if you practice woodworking what do you do?

2020-04-10 19:03:44 UTC

made anything yet?

2020-04-10 19:07:05 UTC

Mostly repairs and custom shelfs, racks and what not around the farm. I have a workshop and a good amount of tools. I've build some furniture but not really something I would put into my house quite yet.
I like to work with salvaged lumber because it feels good to re purpose and it's cheaper.
I am trying to get more into no nail no screw kinda stuff but currently I am renovating a house so I am a bit busy.

2020-04-10 19:09:01 UTC

did you renovate because of corona, i heard a lot of people do that now because they cant travel so they figure they might as well

2020-04-10 19:10:11 UTC

I started shortly before that but it helped me tremendously because uni is cancelled.

2020-04-10 19:13:08 UTC

I've been at it for around 2 months now and I am 85% done with stripping the insides. I am doing the top flor only for now but I am taking everything out that isn't structural including heating and electricity.
The house is from 1860 and has an addition from the 1960s. I try to get it back to original as much as possible. Especially building material wise.

2020-04-10 19:14:31 UTC

much respect. I hope you know how to make sure it ends up structurally sound

2020-04-10 19:14:33 UTC

The shit from the 60's still smells like cancer despite being in there for decades. Fuck I hate plastic so god dam much.

2020-04-10 19:14:54 UTC

hopefully no asbestos

2020-04-10 19:15:41 UTC

The structure is fine.
Oh yeah haven't found anything yet but I am still wearing a mask because of all the dust.

2020-04-10 19:16:38 UTC

We still have a ton of asbestos in some other buildings though. In roofs and ceilings. Thankfully all in cement fiber boards but still a pain.

2020-04-10 19:18:11 UTC

Going all natural is a bit more expensive in some areas 2-3 times as much but I think it's worth it in the long run. Not only because of air quality but also it saves the next guy from going to the landfill.

2020-04-10 19:19:34 UTC

do you mean you only use"natural materials" to renovate?

2020-04-10 19:19:54 UTC

Yes

2020-04-10 19:20:28 UTC

I mean it's a half timbered house with clay bricks to begin with so it hands itself to that fairly well.

2020-04-10 19:20:35 UTC

i think avoiding stone and glass wool is probably a good idea

2020-04-10 19:21:26 UTC

Yeah and epically plastic. I found alternative materials for most applications.

2020-04-10 19:22:33 UTC

Hemp mats for impact sound insulation. Volcanic rock for insulating the roof and so on.

2020-04-10 19:23:12 UTC

I am still going to use drywall for the interior walls but it's gypsum so that's okay.

2020-04-10 19:24:02 UTC

i have some vermiculite and perlite for bonsai soil but they or similar products are used for insulation too

2020-04-10 19:24:21 UTC

Yeah I am going to use perlite

2020-04-10 19:25:22 UTC

It's not cheap and not the best insulator but since the top ceiling isn't super flat it's a good choice to fill in all the uneven bits.

2020-04-10 19:26:13 UTC

i think i got 200 liter perlite for 25 bucks or so

2020-04-10 19:26:28 UTC

is that expensive for an insulant?

2020-04-10 19:26:46 UTC

Depends how thicc you make it.

2020-04-10 19:28:26 UTC

The price is roughly the same here. I am going to do 10cm on average which isn't much but that would be around 13 bucks a mยฒ and I have to do 130 mยฒ

2020-04-10 19:29:27 UTC

The ceiling is already like 10 to 15 cm clay staw and wood so I don't need much and I still want to be able to walk in the attic.

2020-04-10 19:29:49 UTC

makes sense

2020-04-11 13:20:19 UTC

Here is a fun hobby for you guys to get into.
