Warlords 2020
. . . did someone @ errybody earlier? . .
@Hellhound6 he wasn't self made either. That's my point. No one is. Even the Governator himself will tell you that
tbh I think the game has changed now that the internet is here. I don't think I would have needed libraries if Google/YouTube were around when I was younger
@INNYGMATYK disregard that was me. Issue resolved
We're at a really silly crossroads now, if I say that you can achieve success on the back of any private service, you're gonna say that there's people out there who can't afford it, if I say that you can achieve success through public means, then you're gonna say that it was required to be successful
@AKAlexei all good - just couldn't find either ping and wasn't sure if I was supposed to be here ๐
carry on.
there's lots of extremely cheap private methods of gaining the tools required to be successful, and there's lots of very expensive means. There's also lots of REALLY good public ones, and there's lots of really bad ones too
For some, public means IS required to be successful. It's not that people can't become successful through private means. We know that's true. The point is that not everyone has those opportunities for a variety of reasons. I have no interest in seizing the means or that shit, but you can't sit there and say that everyone or even most have equal opportunity. If that were true, the population of the US wouldn't be in the position it's in right now
to be 100% crystal clear, I don't think that everyone has perfect opportunity. But I also don't think that our system is broken to the point where we need to replace it
"you can't sit there and say that everyone or even most have equal opportunity."
I don't think that most have equal opportunity, I think that most have ACCEPTABLE opportunity required to gain success
Once again, pic related
Idk, I think the dept of ed needs to be ended. More local schools could better do a job of teaching than fed mandates
I think that college is extremely over-valued in the modern age. So I'm not gonna dispute the fact that people are in too much debt.
I think that if more people went to trade schools, and if gov't regulation surrounding trade schools was reduced, the world would be much more amazing.
@AKAlexei ok, but you dont need college. They probably went for some bullshit lib arts degree that has no applicable field. Smart thing would be a trade
@CatLoverKid fuck, same wavelengths bruh
You're right, college is overvalued. But why is that? Because in the 1970s, they started doing exactly what Adam Smith said NOT to do; offshoring jobs to maximize profits
I'm also a bit of an isolationist so I think I'm gonna agree with you there
And handing out subsidies like candy in halloween
so long as the state exists, we need to think about the implications of allowing companies to go elsewhere, where labor laws are different
@thedarkness05 (yes)x1000
And I'm somewhat an authority. I just got my bachelors degree and have debt. I only did it because the careers I want require it. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered
can I ask what degree/career?
same for me, I'm in tech
Double major crim jus and poly sci
The state wasn't responsible for that. The corporations lobbied and made sure that starting with Nixon, places like China, India, Mexico, etc were open for business. They made it happen
Than why does the govt shell out sooo much cash in fafsa, pell grant, loans, ect?
the state was "responsible" (not really a good word for it) because labor laws exist that create differing opportunity costs for employment in other countries. As a result, companies are incentivized to look elsewhere
Not to mention the gi bill. But thays kinda earned from service, so I'll let it slide
Because when the jobs were shipped overseas, suddenly the only jobs that were left were ones that required college degrees. The colleges saw an opportunity to profit so they hiked tuition rates through the roof
In the 60s you could go to school for practically nothing
Now look at people like @CatLoverKid he's over 100k in debt
but I also make 150k
so I won't be for long
I took that risk
Aigjt, but Im sure he chose that path. My cousin went for 70k a semester
^
Most of these kids go to party, dont have a plan, end up getting fucked, and want mommy gubment to make all their problems go away. And I think thats wrong
^ absolutely based opinion
And what about people like me?
105k earning against 100k in debt. Mhm. Lemme know how that one works out
*150
you misread my dude
People who worked hard, still had trouble, didn't party or drink, or fuck around, and ended up with barely anything to show for it
I also dunno what you mean, that can be paid off very easily???
Like I have no problem paying my debt. Its an agreement I made, on my own, and I'll fulfill it. I paid my way trough community college. I partly paid my wat through private. I'll be debt free in a few years
@CatLoverKid no it can't
@AKAlexei I dunno your full life story sorry dude
Why do you think I'm joining the Marines
he was talking to me there
he was talking to me, reread it
Why do you think so many people are joining the military just so they can pay off their loans or go to school at all?
The big thing is
me and Deaths were talking there
@AKAlexei whats your degree in?
Get an aerospacial engineering degree
Also, I got my degree so I could go in. Officer route
I was going for political science with a minor in film
oof
Make a space mining company
Get dwarves to work for you
@Sir Harndes lmk if you need someone for solar and software
Make a space pod system for me
Done, check out Hyperloop
Wait, did you finish your degree program? Or only partly?
I'm finishing it
Nah, I meant @AKAlexei
I think he was asking @AKAlexei there
Oh
Working hard doesn't guarantee you success or even stability. That's a problem.
correct
it's RISK
Space Dwarves
wait here's a good question
Only stable answer
like a really good one
would you rather live in a society which guarantees you'll stay exactly where you are, and never change. Or one where you can risk going up the ladder, at the expense that you might go down?
No I didn't finish it. I ran out of money. And once again, you're failing to see that there's a difference between previous generations who could easily go to college for dirt cheap and people nowadays who have to join the military just so that way they have that opportunity because they can't afford it and don't want to go into debt
A soceity that allows movement in ones lifetime. I mean look at india with the caste for life shit
SPACE
If it was that simple lmfao
DWARVES
I would rather live in a society where the risk you speak of doesn't mean risking ending up on the streets like it does for for many people
Alrighty then
how else would the risk manifest?
Im going mining
if you have nothing else to put on the line?
@Sir Harndes Deeprock Galactic?
Tag me if y'all need hentai shit
Yeah
yeet, have fun. Love that game
@AKAlexei nah, I follow. But why do they need college is my question? Is that the way to their career? Than fine, go military to pay that debt. Or are they doing it because of societal pressure to get an associates at the minimum? A HS degree meant you could go far, and was valid. Now you're looked down upin for not going to higher learning
^x1000000
@Sir Harndes always my dude. And you can pm me some really weird shit. I dont judge
Service guarantees citizenship. That's exactly what I've been saying. Merc hit the nail on the head. And you know what? It might be an interesting plot element for a book and a shitty film adaptation, but in reality? It's a garbage system
I get the military industrial complex always needa meat for the grinder. So why wouldnt they have a hand in raising the price of college to coerce some fresh recruits?
^
Ok, but I really do love starship troopers
