SPC John T. Netherton, of Bravo Batteryย was riding in the back seat for an 1103rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion Convoy Logistics Patrol (CLP)
ย The CLP was traveling in an urban area, with five to six story buildings on each side on the road when his Gun Truck was struck by a 4 array Steel and Copper Explosively Formed Penetrator
ย Severely wounding the Truck Commander, gunner, wounded the driver and causing the vehicle to catch fire.ย Though badly wounded himself, SPC Netherton instinctively grabbed the fire extinguisher
He began to suppress the fire in the area of the gunner.ย SPC Netherton then aided the gunner in egressing the vehicle despite his own traumatic injuries.ย He did this without regard for his own life
It was not until SPC Nethertonโs injuries were fully evaluated that you see what an unbelievable feat he accomplished that night.
SPC Netherton sustained two broken knees, burns and cuts to his face, severe laceration to his left hand, and shrapnel to his forearm and back
PFC Florence said himself he would not be alive were it not for SPC Netherton.ย His actions saved the life of his gunner and are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service.

New Judicial Resignation
Judge Katherine B Forrest (b. 2/13/1964; 54 yrs old)
Announced resignation ("retirement") today, July 18, 2018, from Southern District of NY's US District Court.

On May 4, 2011, President Barack Obama nominated Forrest to fill a judicial seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York that had been vacated by Judge Jed S. Takeoff who took senior status at the end of 2010. Forrest was nominated by Obama to the bench in May 2011 on the recommendation of U.S. Senator Charles Schumer of New York. In her financial disclosures, Forrest said she was worth $4.3 million and that (previous law firm) Cravath (Swaine, & Moore) will continue paying her $380,000 a year for the next ten years. The US Senate confirmed Forrest in voice vote on October 13, 2011. She received her judicial commission on October 17, 2011.
On July 18, 2018, Forrest announced her retirement from the bench.

Katherine B. Forrest is a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., a position she has held since October 2010. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, she worked at the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York, handling an array of commercial litigation with a particular focus on antitrust, copyright, and digital media. Forrest worked at Cravath beginning in 1990, becoming a partner at the law firm in 1998. She received her J.D. in 1990 from the New York University School of Law and her B.A., with honors, from Wesleyan University in 1986.
