steem power is convertable unto USD. usd buys server

2018-05-18 22:23:06 UTC

it's a complete economic cycle already. decentralized upon the planet.

2018-05-18 22:23:33 UTC

rpc node runs around 512gb ram... witness nodes around 64

2018-05-18 22:23:42 UTC

seed nodes can run anything over 4-8gb

2018-05-18 22:24:21 UTC

see the reason why steem will go up, is everyone thinks it's not worth it or they dunno the technologoy. it has NO FEES. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2018-05-18 22:24:45 UTC

so you ahve bitcoin or litecoin. bitcoin has .22 usd fee. litecoin .01 usd. microtransaction useless. steem has 0.00

2018-05-18 22:24:53 UTC

Zero better than 0.22 usd or 0.01 usd

2018-05-18 22:25:11 UTC

also the addressing, all you need to know to send me a million usd is gray00. that is my account name

2018-05-18 22:25:18 UTC

you dont have that with bitcoin.

2018-05-18 23:06:44 UTC

@Tinytim
Most of the Alt-Right I've encountered refer to Sargon as "Sargoy of Mossad" and similar things. It should be clear that they despise him.

2018-05-18 23:14:37 UTC

It should be clear than any ALT right despise any left of centre, and most probably any left of Alt right, including the right. Precisely the same as the alt left despise anyone right of the alt left including the normal left

2018-05-18 23:24:32 UTC

@Graylan | gray00 and how is a node set up?

2018-05-18 23:25:06 UTC

@Grenade123 its complicated

2018-05-18 23:25:09 UTC

you run software

2018-05-18 23:25:13 UTC

and then get votes

2018-05-18 23:25:19 UTC

people vote you into top 20

2018-05-18 23:25:22 UTC

you get $

2018-05-18 23:25:39 UTC

voting is done via weighted stake. aka how much $ usd value voted for u

2018-05-18 23:25:43 UTC

dont matter how many people

2018-05-18 23:28:46 UTC

So in other words whoever is running the software is storing parts of the information that makes up the service.

2018-05-18 23:29:00 UTC

precicely yes

2018-05-18 23:29:14 UTC

it works similar to bitcoin

2018-05-18 23:29:19 UTC

But this is proof of stake

2018-05-18 23:29:23 UTC

and bitcoin is proof of work

2018-05-18 23:29:47 UTC

although steem is mined. not Staked. techinically

2018-05-18 23:33:53 UTC

Am I required to run this software that acts as a node to use any part of steem, or only if I wish to get paid?

2018-05-18 23:39:11 UTC

@Dunk Massive
I'm a Green Party member, and have been called Alt-Right for being opposed to the intolerance and violence of Antifa.

2018-05-19 00:06:29 UTC

@Grenade123 only if you want to be paid for being witness. you can be paid by just writing content that is good with your brain

2018-05-19 00:06:43 UTC

all you need to post is a web browser or desktop light wallet

2018-05-19 00:07:02 UTC

Vessel busy.org steemit.com dlive.io d.tube etc..

2018-05-19 00:07:36 UTC

i like to think of it as mining crypto with my brain

2018-05-19 00:08:38 UTC

for example, someone is running competition

2018-05-19 00:08:47 UTC

for the best article about wikileaks.

2018-05-19 00:09:00 UTC

prize is the guy will up for you 50-100usd on a post ๐Ÿ˜‰

2018-05-19 00:09:03 UTC

so people up-voting your content is sort of like giving you a few bucks (that is a very simplified view of it)

2018-05-19 00:09:15 UTC

yes exactly

2018-05-19 00:09:28 UTC

they can gift you crypto or upvote with their Delegated stake weight (aka steem power )

2018-05-19 00:09:47 UTC

but an up-vote costs them nothing?

2018-05-19 00:10:31 UTC

yea cost them nothing. But they bought steem or earned it

2018-05-19 00:10:38 UTC

ANd powered it up into steem power.

2018-05-19 00:10:58 UTC

they acn power down it all and sell it all

2018-05-19 00:11:00 UTC

takes 90 days

2018-05-19 00:11:45 UTC

ill show u my account

2018-05-19 00:12:20 UTC

see you can see my voting banwidth, you can see voting power. you can see every action ive ever done

2018-05-19 00:12:28 UTC

transparent and on chain forever

2018-05-19 00:12:45 UTC

hold on, i'm trying to wrap my head around where the money, or more accurately value, comes from with up votes.

2018-05-19 00:13:40 UTC

from inflation with the creation of new steem

2018-05-19 00:13:54 UTC

new steem is created portion goes to witnesses

2018-05-19 00:14:04 UTC

other portion goes to content creator

2018-05-19 00:14:31 UTC

just like crypto is mined with ASIC miner, inflates the number of say DOGECOINs

2018-05-19 00:15:13 UTC

so kind of like new stock being issued

2018-05-19 00:15:16 UTC

@Grenade123 one of my friends is a developer she would probably talk to you

2018-05-19 00:15:25 UTC

she builds all kinds of stuff for steem

2018-05-19 00:15:29 UTC

from canada

2018-05-19 00:15:49 UTC

I can only explain it to a basic level she can explain it from the development level you see

2018-05-19 00:16:16 UTC

i don't really need a developer's perspective, i'm just trying to figure out where the value comes from. Since up-votes are free, the value doesn't come from the people paying you.

2018-05-19 00:16:25 UTC

not paying

2018-05-19 00:16:28 UTC

but you understand now ?

2018-05-19 00:16:28 UTC

up-voting you

2018-05-19 00:16:36 UTC

Well you have upvoting and downvoting

2018-05-19 00:16:42 UTC

the payout peroid takes 7 days

2018-05-19 00:17:03 UTC

so a new "coin", i guess steem? is created every 7 days

2018-05-19 00:17:05 UTC

all the upvotes and downvotes are calculated , and the steempower and steem back dollars are paid out.

2018-05-19 00:17:24 UTC

yea exactly. new steempower is created

2018-05-19 00:17:49 UTC

steem power = one steem that has been delgated into vesting shares into the account

2018-05-19 00:17:58 UTC

one steem power = one steem

2018-05-19 00:18:42 UTC

@Grenade123 check this out

2018-05-19 00:18:49 UTC

it'll explain the earnings

2018-05-19 00:22:42 UTC

okay, so, we have 100 coins, which are currently distributed among users. lets say all those coins added up are worth 1000 bucks usd. now its payday, so now there is 101 coins. that new coin has been given out/split up, based on all the up-votes and downvotes of everything, right? so lets say now i have that coin, or at least a part of it. technically there is still only 1000 bucks worth of value in the system, but i now have a small piece of that. more or less?

2018-05-19 00:22:55 UTC

if we say value cannot be added into the system at this moment

2018-05-19 00:23:48 UTC

@Giovanna Liviana "If you're not actively anti fascist, then you are a fascist" - Antifa

2018-05-19 00:24:25 UTC

@Grenade123 value comes from trading and investing

2018-05-19 00:24:38 UTC

if steem was worth 0 it wouldnt work

2018-05-19 00:24:53 UTC

it has to be worth USD For the system to work. making it almost unstoppable now

2018-05-19 00:25:01 UTC

because witnessing never went unprofitable

2018-05-19 00:25:10 UTC

i know i know, but do you get my point? if this is not how it works, then i am getting "free" money from up-votes which is not a thing

2018-05-19 00:25:19 UTC

it's not free

2018-05-19 00:25:29 UTC

you have to earn it

2018-05-19 00:25:32 UTC

just like YouTUbe

2018-05-19 00:25:32 UTC

who is losing "money" to give me that new coin

2018-05-19 00:25:37 UTC

no one

2018-05-19 00:25:42 UTC

then that is free money

2018-05-19 00:25:48 UTC

youtube doesn't give out free money

2018-05-19 00:25:51 UTC

it's not free money.

2018-05-19 00:26:00 UTC

companies pay for ads, and you get a piece of that

2018-05-19 00:26:02 UTC

Go ahead and just post stuff without trying

2018-05-19 00:26:05 UTC

you get 0.00

2018-05-19 00:26:11 UTC

nothing in the network is gaurenteed

2018-05-19 00:26:23 UTC

you can post stuff with try and still get 0, depending on upvotes

2018-05-19 00:26:33 UTC

yea e xactly

2018-05-19 00:26:35 UTC

but this is not the point

2018-05-19 00:26:49 UTC

@Dunk Massive
They're fanatics.

2018-05-19 00:26:52 UTC

i make something, people up-vote it. all fine and good.
