Word is that Flake, Murkowski and Collins are voting to delay though.
Might already be delayed.
i still think trying to run him after a dust up will prove to be a mistake movign forward
can get him past confirmed
but no one will ever be right with anything he says
They did this same thing with Justice Thomas.
it will always be a fight because of this
ya i know
And Thomas got confirmed.
look how that turned out
He's still around and has a great deal of influence.
Really, the question is why the black community doesn't recognize him more.
Honestly, I bridging the divide think it could start with something crazy: Like Obama endorsing some Trump employees for academic jobs.
As I said the delay tactic will fall apart if there's no attempt to schedule testimony from that Dem operative accuser.
I don't think Trump is going to really do anything as president that will bridge any divides. Too much is at stake.
Another thing is if the Kochs fund a democrat (as they are doing now)
But those are relatively low-impact motions.
I actually call out Obama alot on this.
He does a good job talking about "talking with one's enemies' but he never really backs it up.
The left puts way too much energy into creating and sustaining the divides you're referring to for Trump to bridge them instantly.
Obama in particular could do alot to put this all down. He's still widely respected and has made noises like he thinks things should calm down.
Ruth Bader Ginsberg has said she hasn't like the confirmation proceedings.
Obama is a joke.
Maybe to you. But not to the Dem base.
The Dem base doesn't worship Obama the way it used to.
And if he makes a clear move to bridge the divide, it would do alot.
Obama is just a neolib stooge.
True. You could make the same argument with GW Bush.
W was a neocon stooge.
And he's been working in that direction too.
And that's why he's not really accomplished anything.
That's why he doesn't motivate the Dem base like he did in 2008. They have a better idea of what he's selling.
OK. What do you propose to bridge the divide as TylerC was asking?
Which divide specifically?
The partisan gap.
Well, antifa needs to be destroyed by the FBI, for starters.
Antifa is a counterterrorism issue.
while i do want antifa taken down, that wont bridge any gap, that will widen it
We can't engage on civil terms when there's a constant threat of physical violence lurking.
the people that support them will decry it, no matter how soft the takedown is
i agree with you dev
i think the threat of that violence is the only reason i am here
Ending violence against Trump supporters is a non-negotiable precondition for any move to 'bridge the partisan divide'.
its the worst thing to come of all of this crap
that stance i can understand, not sure i could support it to that degree
im not trying to start crap, just in my head there has to be something that can be done
not that us on this board are going to be the ones to find it
There's also the fact that the SJW left is literally a cult and that makes any attempt to engage with it completely pointless.
but if people on a chatroom with similar interests cant even find the common ground... what hope is there for the people sittign on the edges of the extreeme
ya sjw has become a religion
no doubt about it
There isn't hope of that and realistically you shouldn't expect it.
well ok maybe not for the edgelords
but at least the people caught in the middle
we should be able to be saved without jumping in line
Yeah, you need to be able to moderate to some extent.
Who in the Dem Party represents the middle right now?
It looks like the Dems have already cut off the middle.
candidate wise or just people side?
@devpav Ask Lago, he keeps saying they're full of sane people but never really gives names.
The last name he gave was Warner and then I showed him Warner's internet regulation paper. But he claims to be in the Democratic party foot troops and likes who he meets. And he's always felt reasonable to me.
Start with their representatives in Congress. Who are the Dem centrists?
He was clearly bothered by that Warner.
Don't ask me. Ask Lago.
I thought I was talking to TylerC.
But you do need to be able to moderate. And find a way to share parts.
You're talking with both of us. I asked the question on behalf of Tyler if you remember.
Alot of the problem, and the whole reason I argue the right needs to scale up is because the left already has.
But if you can't find a peace, it's just going to be war until everything is ground down underfoot.
the right is way behind in that respect
thats my problem with it pratel
nail on the nead with your last line
nail on the head
cant edit from this screen for some reason, not on my laptop atthe moment
Agreed, which I why I have been trying to argue for more activism and organization. You have to be able to scale or it's going to just be bullying. You also need to be able to find the peace.
I think the left already believes it's in a total war.
It does.
It's been that way for decades.
So we need to declare a reciprocal total war.
America is a balance of the left and right
neither side could do it on their own
period
You're already in it dev, what are you doing to fight it?
both would turn into authority
so we have to find that common ground
sure. But the peace terms are not good right now.
agreed
And right now it's far too balanced to the left.
thats why the right has to keep the level heads to prevail
Agreed. There's smart war and there's dumb war.
yep
This is something the left actually understands well.
the way we win matters
Yes, but capitulation isn't that way.
oh hell no, i dont give up
haha
and no one should
but new strategies are needed at this stage
Agreed.
because the same old story isnt going to cut it
