I found a way to get rid of the system! Turns out the government is so stupid they named system34

2018-08-11 16:42:46 UTC

I bet it's like the last one!

2018-08-11 16:42:47 UTC

What's the windows folder delete command?

2018-08-11 16:42:57 UTC

del? or rm?

2018-08-11 16:43:18 UTC

not sure tbh..

2018-08-11 16:43:25 UTC

it's not rm

2018-08-11 16:43:28 UTC

I just tried to help my mom get the chrome app on her iPhone back to the home page. She tapped it once while it was on the hotbar at the bottom and then it just shat itself and removed the shortcut. It's still downloaded, you can search for it locally and open it, but i can't figure out how to get it back onto the home screen.

2018-08-11 16:43:28 UTC

that much I remember

2018-08-11 16:43:46 UTC

Smartphones are counter-intuitive

2018-08-11 16:44:03 UTC

LOL WAIT

2018-08-11 16:44:16 UTC

Keyboard and mouse are clearly easier

2018-08-11 16:45:00 UTC

She just said she dragged Safari down to the hotbar and right when she dropped it there, Chrome magically popped back up in the spot it was before.

2018-08-11 16:45:19 UTC

They've touch screens are so complicated! Good thing they invented a new system called "buttons"

2018-08-11 16:45:31 UTC

I so prefer buttons

2018-08-11 16:45:57 UTC

Are we talking cmd or PS? Because PS has a lot more Linux styled commands

2018-08-11 16:46:05 UTC

I use Ubuntu

2018-08-11 16:46:07 UTC

so linux

2018-08-11 16:46:29 UTC

I haven't used Windows for years

2018-08-11 16:47:13 UTC

You can use rd in powershell

2018-08-11 16:47:21 UTC

That's weird

2018-08-11 16:47:29 UTC

powershell always seemed weird to me

2018-08-11 16:47:40 UTC

What the world needs now

2018-08-11 16:47:44 UTC

Power shell is "Microsoft is trying to have a good terminal"

2018-08-11 16:47:44 UTC

Is love, sweet love.

2018-08-11 16:47:58 UTC

It's not perfect but it's better than cmd

2018-08-11 16:48:28 UTC

CMD is rooted in lagacy dos

2018-08-11 16:48:43 UTC

And people are now making repos for Windows, which is neat

2018-08-11 16:48:56 UTC

What do you mean, repos

2018-08-11 16:49:05 UTC

Like open source software for windows or what

2018-08-11 16:49:52 UTC
2018-08-11 17:02:57 UTC

I'm gonna go play hoi4

2018-08-11 17:03:13 UTC

do it

2018-08-11 17:11:31 UTC

Basically yeah

2018-08-11 17:11:48 UTC

There's always been oss for windows

2018-08-11 17:11:53 UTC

There's now plugins for PS that let you use Linux style installations

2018-08-11 17:12:03 UTC

Just use gimp

2018-08-11 17:12:06 UTC

For a variety of FOSS and some non FOSS programs

2018-08-11 17:12:25 UTC

I love foss software

2018-08-11 17:12:37 UTC

it helps me loads when working and writing software of my own

2018-08-11 17:13:13 UTC

So you could be extra lazy, and have a script that installs to powershell, and then a script that sets up your software, rather than manually install from a browser or keep a list of URLs

2018-08-11 17:13:32 UTC

Or just use apt

2018-08-11 17:13:36 UTC

Tbh if it wasn't for DX I'd be on Linux already

2018-08-11 17:13:38 UTC

if you're on a debian based system

2018-08-11 17:13:45 UTC

Right but this is for Windows

2018-08-11 17:13:50 UTC

True

2018-08-11 17:14:05 UTC

Except the installers, accepting agreements, etc

2018-08-11 17:14:13 UTC

can't usually do that automatically

2018-08-11 17:14:31 UTC

Iirc I didn't have to handle shit when using chocolatey

2018-08-11 17:14:48 UTC

But I haven't used it in a while because it's more novelty than utility rn

2018-08-11 17:15:10 UTC

it might be useful for businesses

2018-08-11 17:15:14 UTC

or people who reinstall windows a lot

2018-08-11 17:18:21 UTC

Eh, most enterprise level stuff would just use desired state configuration or imaging or something

2018-08-11 17:18:30 UTC

True

2018-08-11 17:18:48 UTC

I don't see why businesses still use windows anymore, other than legacy software support

2018-08-11 17:19:08 UTC

Windows is honestly bad for businesses, due to its bad security

2018-08-11 17:21:14 UTC

Easy to use, most enterprise software works with it, industry standard, your employees know how it works

2018-08-11 17:21:35 UTC

Everyone at my work is excited about the upcoming switch from OSX to Windows

2018-08-11 17:21:41 UTC

Microsoft also has decent office applications and will host your shit if you don't have the server capacity

2018-08-11 17:21:50 UTC

>switch to OSX
Why even bother?

2018-08-11 17:21:58 UTC

From OSX

2018-08-11 17:21:59 UTC

Because OSX supports nothing

2018-08-11 17:22:02 UTC

Oh sorry

2018-08-11 17:22:07 UTC

Np

2018-08-11 17:22:09 UTC

Yeah read that backwards

2018-08-11 17:22:25 UTC

Also, using msoffice 360 is a bad idea for business info in my opinion

2018-08-11 17:22:30 UTC

Yeah Windows 7 or 10 is a huge functionality upgrade over OSX lol. I've had to use both for work

2018-08-11 17:22:34 UTC

since then you trust important stuff to ms

2018-08-11 17:22:51 UTC

Everyone hates it at the office

2018-08-11 17:22:52 UTC

Most smaller companies have worse security tbh

2018-08-11 17:23:07 UTC

Man just like, browsing to a folder is a chore

2018-08-11 17:23:10 UTC

Why would we need security?

2018-08-11 17:23:22 UTC

That's why they should start out with something like Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or Fedora

2018-08-11 17:23:32 UTC

Then they can get used to it

2018-08-11 17:23:35 UTC

and do stuff better

2018-08-11 17:23:38 UTC

Idk what other companies do, but all we do is stay on like 2 sites

2018-08-11 17:24:07 UTC

Mostly where enterprise Linux comes in is like OpenSUSE and RHEL

2018-08-11 17:24:13 UTC

Yeah

2018-08-11 17:24:17 UTC

For devops and shit

2018-08-11 17:24:19 UTC

RedHat and Fedora are used a lot too

2018-08-11 17:24:45 UTC

RHEL= Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I've not seen Fedora used yet but I wouldn't necessarily doubt it

2018-08-11 17:25:13 UTC

It just makes less sense for a large business given that it's less stable and doesn't come with support

2018-08-11 17:25:35 UTC

I've got a CentOS machine at home that I tinker with

2018-08-11 17:25:41 UTC

And my laptop runs Antergos

2018-08-11 17:25:43 UTC

> less stable
I wouldn't stand by that statement

2018-08-11 17:25:59 UTC

And linux support companies exist for a reason

2018-08-11 17:27:28 UTC

Yes, that's why Red Hat exists separately from Fedora and CentOS

2018-08-11 17:29:59 UTC

And Fedora is meant to be cutting edge, so it's going to have stability problems. That doesn't make it bad though. I use Antergos for similar reasons

2018-08-11 17:30:28 UTC

It just means it has a different purpose than RHEL or CentOS, which is why all 3 exist

2018-08-11 17:30:42 UTC

I just use Ubuntu because I don't really give a damn about special stuffs

2018-08-11 17:30:53 UTC

I mostly just use it for the ubuntu universe repo

2018-08-11 17:31:04 UTC

otherwise I'd use another flavor of debian

2018-08-11 17:31:09 UTC

If I had another machine I would probably slap Debian on it

2018-08-11 17:31:30 UTC

I love debian

2018-08-11 17:31:41 UTC

It's great

2018-08-11 17:32:05 UTC

I don't mind it yeah. Has better app compatibility than Arch or RHEL

2018-08-11 17:32:15 UTC

Because of the popularity of Ubuntu/Mint

2018-08-11 17:33:15 UTC

Yeah
