Even this discord channel. Distraction has become necessary to deal with the many elements of our lives that we are disappointed with. The further people slip into this zoned-out vegetable state of mind, the more likely it is that we will be completely caught off guard if there is any major terrorist attack or cataclysmic event.

Well even the wealthy themselves are distracted, they just have higher tier distractions, IE going to 10000 dollar seat NBA games and concerts every night. But they know the commoners can't afford that, so they have to invent the most addictive types of placating things possible. Fortnite for example. I play Overwatch, and it's not better; the entire thing is meticulously designed to keep you grinding for more SR, keep you grinding for more lootboxes. This is HIGHLY more addictive than past times that weren't built with this sort of greed in mind such as fucking Solitaire or Chess.
