I admire the fact that everyone seems to have strong convictions

Its an almost spiritual experience to join ranks with your brothers and march in file for something bigger than yourself. Pretty soon here you'll have the chance to be part of another march like that, and a huge batch of interviewees will join because of what they saw you do.
