Hello everyone,

It's interesting how we've never had any issues with either of our payment processors for over two years now, but all of a sudden when Gab.com is the only platform on the internet to host Alex Jones and defend free expression for all people, we become the target.

In the last two weeks both of our payment processors have threatened to or have frozen our service. This is why we are crowdfunding from You, The People, to build our own free speech-friendly infrastructure. Learn how to become a Gab shareholder here: https://www.startengine.com/freespeech

If you are upgrading to GabPro it’s important that you do so from our shop for the time being: https://shop.gab.com/products/gab-pro-subscription

Paypal did not terminate our service--yet. They threatened to a few weeks ago over a meme from 2012 called "Navy Seal Copypasta." They took the meme literally like idiots who know nothing at all about basic internet culture. We refused to censor the meme because the context and intent were very clear. We have not heard back since we told them this 11 days ago and our account is still active as of now.

Stripe, our other payment processor, is demanding quote:

"Modification of your terms of service to indicate that adult or illegal content cannot be streamed through GabTV or otherwise distributed through the Gab service.
The implementation of reasonable controls to ensure that no adult or illegal content is being streamed through GabTV or otherwise available on the Gab service."

Both of these make no sense because we already do not allow any illegal content and take action against it. Further, any adult content must be marked as NSFW (Not Safe For Work) per our user guidelines, which is a similar feature that Reddit and others have for adult content on their site. Stripe has no problem working with Facebook, Pinterest, and Squarespace, all of which certainly have adult content if you go looking for it.

or otherwise distributed through the gab service

2018-10-04 01:49:58 UTC

Stripe is opposed to adult content?

2018-10-04 01:49:59 UTC

wtf?

2018-10-04 01:50:05 UTC

nope

2018-10-04 01:50:16 UTC

What is it with payment processors being ninnies about everything, even perfectly legal things?

2018-10-04 01:50:22 UTC

@Beemann Make the Plague Great Again

2018-10-04 01:50:23 UTC

they say they want them to mark it as NSFW (which they do)

2018-10-04 01:50:39 UTC

Is it because people disown transactions or claim they're fraudulent more often when they are in that category?

2018-10-04 01:50:56 UTC

doubt it

2018-10-04 01:50:58 UTC

i.e. when people buy pornography they are more likely to pretend they didn't intend to, when pressed on it.

2018-10-04 01:51:04 UTC

lol

2018-10-04 01:51:19 UTC

oh I wish it was a joke

2018-10-04 01:51:39 UTC

With firearms it seems interesting, I hope it's not _purely_ political.

2018-10-04 01:51:51 UTC

They tend to not process payments for firearms or ammunition.

2018-10-04 01:52:24 UTC

For what it's worth, I don't think Visa has done anything untoward in this sense.

2018-10-04 01:52:30 UTC

MasterCard has gotten their tendrils into shit

2018-10-04 01:52:39 UTC

but Visa always seems to stay out of it.

2018-10-04 01:52:43 UTC

so wait

2018-10-04 01:52:48 UTC

wait wait i just realized

2018-10-04 01:53:04 UTC

if i want to buy a pistol

2018-10-04 01:53:19 UTC

i can't because i have a mastercard bank?

2018-10-04 01:53:54 UTC

google operation chokepoint

2018-10-04 01:53:59 UTC

The bank is seperate from Mastercard.

2018-10-04 01:54:06 UTC

yeah but

2018-10-04 01:54:09 UTC

its still mastercard

2018-10-04 01:54:12 UTC

Operation Chokepoint it seems was not as hapless as it looked.

2018-10-04 01:54:19 UTC

You can't use the card atleast.

2018-10-04 01:54:31 UTC

🤔
