fucking bazel and maven and openjdk have all fucked me in the past 3 days

I've never had a problem with it. I run it on my computer and all my servers

And use maven all the time

I was going to say, I use Maven too and never have an issue

I usually go with open source first, but sometimes ever little thing you want to do seems to have some damn barricade preventing your advancement

I'm also on linux and so there's often all kinds of obscure ways to go about getting things to run the way they were intended

Can't run this program without this other one, yada yada

At least I can compile 99% of the software I need if it's not available compiled for my system

It's all definitely functional, you just generally have to know what hoops to jump through to get it working just the way you want

It's not generally for people who want to do advanced thing but don't have advanced knowledge

If in doubt, build your own. That's what we do

You don't just pick up a new software and know exactly how to work everything within it
