hehe

2020-03-14 19:07:16 UTC

here comes our resident Paraguayan expert

2020-03-14 19:07:54 UTC

@Timeward I would argue that Brazil has more of it than Paraguay, but its not that accessible to the standard population

2020-03-14 19:08:18 UTC

very sad

2020-03-14 19:08:21 UTC

maybe in our more western states its more pronounced than where I am

2020-03-14 19:08:23 UTC

again, like the USA

2020-03-14 19:08:48 UTC

There's a lot of paralels between the brazillian and american expansions

2020-03-14 19:09:06 UTC

interesting how the naive history also seems to remain a stronger influence in warmer climates

2020-03-14 19:09:19 UTC

and was all but eliminated in the temperate climates

2020-03-14 19:09:28 UTC

at least in the US

2020-03-14 19:09:30 UTC

Apart from the the language and social structure, we didn't keep much

2020-03-14 19:10:10 UTC

That's flat out untrue, there are millions of Iroquois still alive

2020-03-14 19:10:40 UTC

Canada has a strong native presence in the northern regions

2020-03-14 19:10:54 UTC

perhaps it's just because they have been displaced from the east coast for the most part

2020-03-14 19:11:44 UTC

only groups of I know are out west, but you'd know better i think

2020-03-14 19:11:44 UTC

Back to Paraguay, some purebred natives still exist

2020-03-14 19:11:49 UTC

could be wrong

2020-03-14 19:12:17 UTC

And there's a weird reverence towards them

2020-03-14 19:12:30 UTC

were they able to preserve their history, written or otherwise?

2020-03-14 19:12:42 UTC

Despite the fact that the state doesn't help that often

2020-03-14 19:13:46 UTC

They didn't have any writing, about preserving their history I don't know. But they have maintained plenty of cultural traditions

2020-03-14 19:14:36 UTC

This is a celebration of the Chaco natives

2020-03-14 19:15:02 UTC

Chaco is the region in western Paraguay

2020-03-14 19:15:55 UTC

that's good at least. I know that alot of European zealots were determine to destroy any history of the natives during colonization and destroyed anything they found in writing they didn't understand

2020-03-14 19:17:19 UTC

They were determined to destroy aspects of it in Paraguay too, they just couldn't quite succeed

2020-03-14 19:19:41 UTC

Most of the natives wear western clothing but that's about it, some of them can speak Spanish, but because most of the mestizo population already speaks guarani (the largest native ethnic group) they often speak that instead

2020-03-14 19:20:50 UTC

Interesting... I know very little about Brazil but even less about Paraguay i'm afraid.

2020-03-14 19:21:02 UTC

Stupid green-go.

2020-03-14 19:21:48 UTC

In fairness you have no reason to know the South

2020-03-14 19:22:34 UTC

I'll tell you what weird though. Fernheim colony in the Chaco

2020-03-14 19:22:47 UTC

this is true.

2020-03-14 19:22:53 UTC

sounds german

2020-03-14 19:23:02 UTC

It's were the Mennonites live

2020-03-14 19:23:07 UTC

ah

2020-03-14 19:23:24 UTC

mennonites are a type of Amish?

2020-03-14 19:23:41 UTC

2020-03-14 19:23:48 UTC
