I wouldn't put it past them

2018-12-29 12:26:44 UTC

they are, after all, selling people using rom formats designed by the community after decrying them as criminals for decades

2018-12-29 12:27:12 UTC

yep

2018-12-29 12:27:27 UTC

i don't think this would be new low for em

2018-12-29 12:27:35 UTC

we'll see

2018-12-29 12:27:48 UTC

I mean technically they still are criminals

2018-12-29 12:28:13 UTC

the most hilarious bit of history still is ubisoft releasing a no-cd crack as an official fix

2018-12-29 12:28:29 UTC

I think an absence of a lawsuit we're seeing is probably due to some kind of a deal

2018-12-29 12:28:49 UTC

If I sell star wars bootleg tapes, even if they're hard to get, it's still not my property to sell, you know?

2018-12-29 12:29:05 UTC

it's also a victimless crime

2018-12-29 12:29:28 UTC

I doubt Disney is felling the hit of a lost sale from someone on a brazilian shanty town

2018-12-29 12:30:08 UTC

The point isn't that the crime causes giant consequences, it's still not legal

2018-12-29 12:30:50 UTC

neither is using straws in california

2018-12-29 12:32:17 UTC

It's not like they're gonna take stuff down from the actual sources anyway

2018-12-29 12:32:21 UTC

also, be aware that 90% of all piracy produces exactly 0 profits, and in most cases actually costs people

2018-12-29 12:32:38 UTC

shareware is one of the few instances in history that communism actually worked

2018-12-29 12:33:15 UTC

IMO, people are just complaining that Nintendo is making it inconvenient to steal their games

2018-12-29 12:33:38 UTC

hmm no, complaining about them being hypocritical on their enforcement

2018-12-29 12:33:40 UTC

You can get any Rom in ten minutes from a pirate site

2018-12-29 12:34:35 UTC

wait ... soo you are saying that moding community is communism gone well ?

2018-12-29 12:35:00 UTC

I said shareware

2018-12-29 12:35:04 UTC

shareware communisom or something

2018-12-29 12:35:07 UTC

So is open source software, yes

2018-12-29 12:35:16 UTC

yeah

2018-12-29 12:35:54 UTC

damn

2018-12-29 12:36:24 UTC

but it works becouse it was free from beggining

2018-12-29 12:36:30 UTC

begining*

2018-12-29 12:37:49 UTC

plenty of works would have been totally lost to history if not for "pirates"

2018-12-29 12:40:34 UTC

what is tnt village ? i know just piratebay

2018-12-29 12:40:43 UTC

I don't exactly remember who, but I remember of a company that bought the rights to a BUTTLOAD of 80s, 70s and 60s cartoons, recorded them on VHS and then trashed the masters because they "won't need them anymore"

2018-12-29 12:41:12 UTC

there are some gamedev diamonds, which now don't have the owner, and companies are suing one another for intellectual rights. if not for the piracy shit would have been lost

2018-12-29 12:41:34 UTC

there's a lot of works out there that no one even knows to whom it belongs

2018-12-29 12:42:11 UTC

and theres no way to buy em, like an auction or smth

2018-12-29 12:42:25 UTC

I tried to help a publisher track down who could own the rights to this years ago, no one knew anything

2018-12-29 12:42:26 UTC

i'd buy some shit :]

2018-12-29 12:42:55 UTC

if this stuff wasn't preserved by "pirates" it would become lost media

2018-12-29 12:43:12 UTC

funny enough, paper documents are more safe than digital ones in some sense

2018-12-29 12:44:28 UTC

"oh but nintendo sells you old games"

Snes had a library of around 1800 games, Nintendo has released like 60

2018-12-29 12:45:14 UTC

and you need to keep buying them every console because Nintendo hasn't figured out user accounts in 2018
