They're too busy focusing on making sure they can recite the Canterbury Tales by heart instead of teaching them how to balance a checkbook

agreed. The only reason I have stayed in it is because I don't have a choice

there are no work opportunities where I live, so the only chance I have to get a job elsewhere is to have a good degree

If I am ever predatory or mean, it's to tourists who treat my country like their theme park and the people in it like zoo animals.

Back when I was a kid my parents opened a teen checking account at their bank for me to learn personal finance. It seems fairly common for parents to do that.
