School is not about teaching skill it's about teaching compliance

2019-01-28 00:20:06 UTC

it shouldn't be

2019-01-28 00:20:09 UTC

again, tis the issue

2019-01-28 00:20:13 UTC

Life isn't structured

2019-01-28 00:20:20 UTC

it's all about adapting to the problems that arise

2019-01-28 00:20:29 UTC

not every problem will have a pre-determined method of solving it

2019-01-28 00:21:26 UTC

it's not just that. it's the idea of limiting yourself in your own brain. we don't teach kids to reach further than a passing grade.

well among all of the problems we have with primary education

2019-01-28 00:21:52 UTC

it's really sad

2019-01-28 00:21:55 UTC

Teach kids to reach? They don't even teach kids to pay taxes

2019-01-28 00:21:59 UTC

I KNOW

2019-01-28 00:22:02 UTC

They don't teach you anything about the real world

2019-01-28 00:22:11 UTC

I don't understand why personal finance isn't a required course in high school

2019-01-28 00:22:21 UTC

how do i adult? *20 ye's old to 30*

2019-01-28 00:23:04 UTC

Mandatory personal finance education in HS would destroy the college debt racket, haha.

2019-01-28 00:23:15 UTC

They're too busy focusing on making sure they can recite the Canterbury Tales by heart instead of teaching them how to balance a checkbook

2019-01-28 00:23:29 UTC

true story

2019-01-28 00:23:44 UTC

College is a terrible place either way

2019-01-28 00:23:59 UTC

That's probably why they don't teach mental health in school either

2019-01-28 00:24:03 UTC

agreed. The only reason I have stayed in it is because I don't have a choice

2019-01-28 00:24:29 UTC

there are no work opportunities where I live, so the only chance I have to get a job elsewhere is to have a good degree

2019-01-28 00:25:06 UTC

i don't believe it to be a cause of *what is being taught and what isn't*
i would wager that there is no profit in changing the current system. no reward so to speak.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it

2019-01-28 00:25:13 UTC

@devpav no, it wouldn't, because the banking system is predatory

2019-01-28 00:25:38 UTC

The WORLD is predatory

2019-01-28 00:25:48 UTC

No, it's not.

2019-01-28 00:26:14 UTC

it is though

2019-01-28 00:26:23 UTC

if you go anywhere, someone is trying to take your money

2019-01-28 00:26:23 UTC

I assure you, I'm absolutely not predatory to my family. To a lesser extent, people I work with. To an even lesser extent, my countrymen.

2019-01-28 00:26:48 UTC

predatory does not mean violent

2019-01-28 00:26:52 UTC

If I am ever predatory or mean, it's to tourists who treat my country like their theme park and the people in it like zoo animals.

2019-01-28 00:27:03 UTC

it means trying to exploit some weakness for personal gain

2019-01-28 00:27:24 UTC

The world at large, is predatory

2019-01-28 00:27:24 UTC

We have Asian tourists here who take pictures of high school kids, it's really weird and disturbing

2019-01-28 00:28:04 UTC

That being said, the banking system doesn't give a fuck who you are and just sees another potential person to indoctrinate into debt slavery

2019-01-28 00:28:07 UTC

Back when I was a kid my parents opened a teen checking account at their bank for me to learn personal finance. It seems fairly common for parents to do that.

2019-01-28 00:28:12 UTC

Advertising campaigns strewn about everywhere, they're basically unavoidable at this point

2019-01-28 00:28:25 UTC

isn't that the case with any business though? @BlueAndBlack

2019-01-28 00:28:27 UTC

Even just a sprinkle of nationalism would make me happier with this situation

2019-01-28 00:28:39 UTC

@EndangeredProdigy no! Plenty of businesses are at least nationalistic

2019-01-28 00:28:55 UTC

are they really? or do they say that they are in order to exploit nationalism in their consumer base

2019-01-28 00:29:10 UTC

You can't say for sure, with most cases
