Logically, Thanos presented a problem. Life as we know it will eventually end just cause they live as resources are not unlimited. Either create a method such that we have unlimited resources(which is a whole nother problem) or just end life as you know it. Cause inherently life is very hard to navigate around, the movie said that thanos was basically wanted the best for everyone and went around doing it the wrong way

they kept the idea of "half" so it wasnt too different

but so much changed for the character that it was pointless to do that

Thanos is like darkseid without the constant need for revenge

So now he's evil not just cause he's a big baddy but cause he has a goal and intends on ending half the world to do it
