2020-02-17 14:45:20 UTC

kind is ill defined so ye

2020-02-17 14:45:29 UTC

the categorization is arbitrary

2020-02-17 14:45:49 UTC

so you can have categorization such that changing species wont change kind

2020-02-17 14:47:21 UTC

in biology species is usualy defined as a group of lifeforms such that if they mated they will produce an offspring capable of living and also reproducing

2020-02-17 14:47:32 UTC

i think that deffinition is a bit problematic

2020-02-17 14:47:39 UTC

ring species for example

2020-02-17 14:48:23 UTC

you could fix it so that the entire ring is a species

2020-02-17 14:57:55 UTC

Species does have its problems tbh.

Also what I was going to ask about is
1- why did none of the carnivores eat the herbavors when they left the Ark
2- how are creatures not all.inbred

2020-02-17 15:08:24 UTC

evolution never said that a squirl can evolve into an elephant

2020-02-17 15:08:46 UTC

a squirl might beable to evolve into something like an elephant but it will never truely be an elephant

2020-02-17 15:09:12 UTC

it wont beable to breed with other elephants just because it looks and acts like one

2020-02-17 15:09:30 UTC

the genetics will be extremly difrent

2020-02-17 15:09:38 UTC

That is true.

2020-02-17 15:09:40 UTC

difrent code can achieve the same result

2020-02-17 15:10:05 UTC

Yeah I agree with you so far

2020-02-17 15:11:41 UTC

Ok

2020-02-17 15:12:07 UTC

I'm following you

2020-02-17 15:16:43 UTC

earlier i talked to someone who claimed that you cant create new information in the genes

2020-02-17 15:17:23 UTC

i gave the example of duplicating genes and then modifying bgoth of them
resulting in 2 seperate new genes (new information)

2020-02-17 15:17:42 UTC

he argued that duplicating a gene is the same gene and thus no new information

2020-02-17 15:17:51 UTC

he ignored the mutation of them both

2020-02-17 15:18:20 UTC

i said this 3 times and all 3 times he just said that duplicating a gene is not new information

2020-02-17 15:19:01 UTC

@Slash how do you adress someone like this

2020-02-17 15:23:13 UTC

i even explained that the duplication is not where the new information comes from

2020-02-17 16:08:09 UTC

Do apologize for not being on, irl busy rn

2020-02-17 16:08:17 UTC

it ok

2020-02-17 16:09:17 UTC

First you break it down, ask them if they think genes can mutate and change.
If they say yes, then move forward and show them examines of gene duplicating
They will claim it's not new info, then, ask them what about if the duplicated gene mutated

2020-02-17 16:10:01 UTC

If they ignore the last piece, they wish to be in an echo chamber and will never listen to anything you say.

However, there are some people who don't understand until you break down all the steps

2020-02-17 16:11:12 UTC

i did in fact do that
