The light is bending around a metal ball in the way. That is undeniable, the light curved around an object that would obstruct its path had it been pointed straight at the destination (not that it’d even hit in a straight line because of the refraction).

You can see stuff very very far away even past the horizon, as long as it's tall enough. To am extent of course
