No forward assist is because I believe that what you would have typically use your forward assist for you can usually achieve by fingering the bolt or by half racking. If you're having to force the bolt into place because there's an issue that have fracking won't solve, then you have a much bigger issue and you probably shouldn't be forcing the bolt closed

I've been shooting for 15 years. Not as much as some but a decent amount. I've had to use my FA about 5 times that I can remember. And each time it was a situation where half racking, or smacking the buttstock would have done the same thing.
