@Syenite When a beekeeper forgot to put the frames back in the hive, the bees built this themselves. It takes into account airflow and temp regulation. Remarkable bees. 🐝

@The Librarian no, I am actually quite impressed the beekeeper was able to lift the lid without all the comb falling off. It is very delicate and falls off easily. There is a hive type called the top bar hive where bees build their own comb but it's not so great for overwintering up north. Buuut I have seen similar comb building when I went to capture a swarm. You can see the white wax comb the built on the top of the lid. It all broke off when the worker tried lifting the lid and discovered bees.
