instead we have old people type care homes for the mentally ill

Well maybe we are meaning different things

But here asylum is just a hospital for mentally ill

my mum worked for them for years before doing psychology, used to smoke weed with one of the nutjobs there

Which usually amounts in a combination hospital

We just have mental hospitals, which so far I haven't seen one in person

But there are some lifers who cannot be in the general populace

It all depends on where you go. Some places don't do shit and just medicate until stable and kick them out

You won't even tell if a home is one of the care homes for mental illness unless one of them leaves the place to go to the shops or something

But some of them are too violent for homes like that

the violent ones go to sectioning

which is more or less a prison

but not as shitty looking

That's pretty well what an asylum would be

i mean, there's different rules on your asylums and our sectioning areas

But Florida abuses the law that allows people to be held for up to three days if they are at risk for self harm

but there's similarities

Holding people for 5-6 days

over here it's up to a board to see if you're fit enough to come out of sectioning

Knowing the case won't go to a judge before they release them

and 9/10 times you're stuck there for life

And since in the US healthcare is not free

It is a money making scheme

healthcare is free here and that's why we're failing and hospitals are closing 🙃
