Paradox of Options

2018-12-09 17:06:57 UTC

Keep it limited to three or four

2018-12-09 17:21:58 UTC

The bottom sticky?

2018-12-09 17:22:09 UTC

Do you mean the social bar?

2018-12-09 17:22:14 UTC

Yeah

2018-12-09 17:22:32 UTC

It's for sharing, so it has to have several options

2018-12-09 17:23:34 UTC

I'm not really sure if it's wise to remove any in this particular case.

2018-12-09 17:24:46 UTC

In the redesign, it would be better to remove the some

2018-12-09 17:25:23 UTC

Overall, a sticky is a bad UX practice

2018-12-09 17:25:50 UTC

But I understand the need for it.

2018-12-09 17:29:52 UTC

I meant that

2018-12-09 17:30:06 UTC

Less choice= more action

2018-12-09 17:30:27 UTC

It's consumer economics

2018-12-09 19:02:16 UTC

I understand. I'll think about it.

2018-12-09 19:03:13 UTC

And about homepage

2018-12-09 19:04:56 UTC

The /amp page and another homepage **could** be bad for seo

2018-12-09 19:05:05 UTC

I may be wrong though

2018-12-09 19:15:44 UTC

@Men Are Human don't waste time editing a faulty theme.

2018-12-10 10:09:06 UTC

@Indigo I'm not too sure if it would be since it's supposed to be something you can do SEO with

2018-12-10 10:09:59 UTC

Have you checked any free bulletin software

2018-12-10 10:10:48 UTC

I mean, mybb, discourse etc

2018-12-10 10:11:15 UTC

Can try them on a local server

2018-12-10 10:13:40 UTC

I'm personally leaning towards xenforo because free forum software is extremely insecure. From experience, you get walls of spam and the Devs often don't care.

2018-12-10 10:17:40 UTC

There isn't much difference afaik when in comes to top free ones like mybb

2018-12-10 10:17:52 UTC

Or you could try discourse

2018-12-10 10:18:03 UTC

It has a better more modern ui

2018-12-10 10:18:26 UTC

And needs very less customization to get to working state

2018-12-10 10:22:33 UTC

@Indigo I really like the look of mybb

2018-12-10 10:23:53 UTC

Discourse not so much. It requires you to basically stream it from a core site. If they decide to take it down, you are done.

2018-12-10 10:24:47 UTC

Does discourse has self hosting option?

2018-12-10 10:24:57 UTC

Then again, you'd need to be pretty competent to hack Discourse because it's compiled software.

2018-12-10 10:25:16 UTC

You basically create a clone of it on a cloud server

2018-12-10 10:25:20 UTC

You could self host discourse even on a local computer

2018-12-10 10:25:57 UTC

Possibly, but my web connection isn't as stable as I'd like

2018-12-10 10:26:30 UTC

I meant local hosting it for testing purposes

2018-12-10 10:27:22 UTC

And then if it satisfies the needs, we can migrate it to the bluehost server.

2018-12-10 10:28:11 UTC

It is decent enough forum software.

2018-12-10 10:28:56 UTC

I think it's the easiest to set up

2018-12-10 10:29:04 UTC

I'm wondering if we need a forum though. Forums are slightly old tech now. I'm wondering if Voats might be a good replacement

2018-12-10 10:29:55 UTC

Along side the discord server, it might be overkill

2018-12-10 10:29:57 UTC

Yeh, I support that.
