It takes literally nothing to write an aircraft off

just because something is expensive doesnt mean they dont get fucked to the point of being inoperable and get stripped for parts

They wrote off a blackhawk because a Mexican Rosehair trarantula crawled int he cockpit

They kept it in the bay for 3 months before finding it dead in the avionics panel

Some dumbass pilot spilled a bag of skittles and they literally disassembled the cockpit to find them all

that makes sense, something like that could legit fuck avionics

You pull 9g in an airframe and they'll shitcan it so fast your head will spin

Because aircraft are delicate, complex vehicles that cannot be safely operated if there's even a hint of damage

Sure they can take a beating, but it's not going back in the air afterwards

This isn't WWII where you can slap a new coat of paint on an airframe after it was shredded by fragmentation and had multiple control surfaces ripped off

Otherwise you just needed a rivet gun, duralumin sheets, and some paint

engines and guns could just be pulled out and replaced pretty easy if it came to that

It helps when you can basically take the .50 off your Willy and slap it in the gun mount

Also tfw your tanks used the same radial as your CAS

The one upside of the USAAC using the .50 was delicious ammo parity with ground forces

The same pallets of ammo you use for your planes can also be sued by your defense force to save the airfield
