Mine fled Germany or Austria in the ‘30s. No one is quite sure what the truth is.
Yeah, nobody remembers exact dates anymore, but they do know they came from Poland to Detroit around then.
mine was Romania way I think
one of my friends has his great-grandfather's austro-hungarian draft notice from 1914, they YEETed out of Europe when it was issued
I spoke to my nan about it recently but can't remember
I've got all my grandads papers from the second world war
his draft, logbook, his reassigment notice
his SOE writ
That's about it. Nobody wanted to go die for someone else's war
Cause he spoke fluent German they put him in the SOE 45-47 to hunt German officers in Germany
ones who had gone undercover etc
My great uncle went to Germany and lost a leg to a landmine. His son has some cool German memorabilia from him.
German Luger and stalhelms
They also have his documents from the US stating he was considered an Enemy Alien after the US entered the war
aha found it
new i had a picture somehwere
Portrait of my grandad done by an officer he bought in
guess as a thank you (?)
war is weird man so idk the exact reasons behind it
theres a 46 date and signature in the bottom left
yeah I have his medals above my bed at home
thats at my nans house but I think she's left it to me
my great-grandfather
Springfield?
yeah
which is actually unusual for 1918
Nice. I like how minimalistic gear used to be.
that's called parade order
no bandage pouch or canteen
I wonder if any of my grandads stuff is still around
my nan kept quite a lot of it
medals, personal files etc
I'll ask her next time im home
Yeah odds are he’d have an M1917
Is he stateside in the photo Fugu?
we only found ou he was soe post death, that stuff is to the grave secret
this picture was taken in the US, I'm surprised he didn't have a Ross or Krag
Or a Nug or any of the other various training and drill rifles
