Imagine being one of the last humans ever next to a black hole

2020-02-23 18:51:29 UTC

Why live

2020-02-23 18:52:07 UTC

Actually there's theoretically a way you can make your civilization last forever even with limited energy

2020-02-23 18:52:23 UTC

Though it's kind of a cheat related to Zeno's paradox

2020-02-23 18:52:25 UTC

Freeze it in stasis

2020-02-23 18:52:33 UTC

So entropy can’t occur

2020-02-23 18:52:54 UTC

yeah im trying to rememeber the guys name who proposed it

2020-02-23 18:53:02 UTC

I got it right

2020-02-23 18:53:15 UTC

basically you have your civ sleep and the time it sleeps doubles each time

2020-02-23 18:53:25 UTC

You’ve gotta go infinitely slowly to infinitely slowly leak your limited energy

2020-02-23 18:53:26 UTC

so it technically never runs out of energy

2020-02-23 18:53:52 UTC

But also you’re awake for shorter and shorter intervals

2020-02-23 18:54:01 UTC

having some matlab fun this afternoon

2020-02-23 18:54:10 UTC

Nice what are you doing on there

2020-02-23 18:54:26 UTC

Download the deep learning toolkit my friend in college wrote part of it

2020-02-23 18:54:30 UTC

Matlab is fun

2020-02-23 18:54:46 UTC

Math is so beautiful, its aesthetically so pure

2020-02-23 18:54:58 UTC

Trying to determine why I get a result on paper math that I shouldn't get

2020-02-23 18:55:14 UTC

it just seems too radical I can't believe my equation

2020-02-23 18:55:42 UTC

not trying to frigthen you, but it could be a brain tumor

2020-02-23 18:55:49 UTC

if matlab doesn't give you the same as on paper, it could be a integer rounding error?

2020-02-23 18:55:55 UTC

I’m gonna go ahead and say super tasks can’t be used to extend human life indefinitely in practice

2020-02-23 18:55:56 UTC

interesting, what type of equation? limits?

2020-02-23 18:55:58 UTC

i knew a guy who suddenly became bad at math, turned out he developed a brain tumor

2020-02-23 18:56:08 UTC

Essentially E being a multiple of 4 and R1 being a prime between 3 and E/4, I get the following when R2 and R3 are two different primes co-prime to E

2020-02-23 18:56:13 UTC

E - R1 = R2*R3

2020-02-23 18:56:26 UTC

Isolating R2 and R3 for their own meaning in this equation I get

2020-02-23 18:56:32 UTC

It was Freeman Dyson who proposed civilizations hibernating to live forever

2020-02-23 18:56:43 UTC

E - R1 = ((E - R1)(E - R1)) / (R2*R3)

2020-02-23 18:57:00 UTC

Dyson was a coper

2020-02-23 18:57:12 UTC

wow JF I didn't know that about you

2020-02-23 18:57:23 UTC

R2.*R3
right?
in matlab if you just do * it uses matrix operators,
if you do .* it uses simple multiplication...

2020-02-23 18:57:24 UTC

Hmm an IQ spike

2020-02-23 18:57:28 UTC

I conclude that E - R1 equaling two multiplied primes is impossible based on this but it doesn't seem like it is

2020-02-23 18:57:35 UTC

I didn’t know JF was this smart, anything beyond algebra 2 is impressive for me

2020-02-23 18:58:04 UTC

you can tell by his skull structure that he is smart

2020-02-23 18:58:08 UTC

I await the publication
