first things first, learn the maps, and learn ways to make money.
If you don't know the maps, you can't make money, and if you can't make money, you can't learn the maps.
By "learn the maps" I mean that you need to memorize spawns, high traffic areas, loot spawns, and extraction points. From there you learn the optimal path to take throughout the map from spawn to exfil.
So for example, I'm a bit better at the game. I don't need to go for shitty little barter items that clutter my backpack, and I've got an expensive gear set on. My thought process might be to go for some high traffic areas and kill some people, then take their gear for me. So I'd plot a path through the map in my head. I'd think about certain angles and places people might be along my path, and that would influence my choices in pathing. For example, if I was on customs and spawned ZB-011 side, I might go through the military checkpoint, and head along radar hill into dorms, hit up the marked room, then extract at either the V-EX, the smugglers boat, or even crossroads if neither of those options are open.
Because of the path I took, I can expect to fight people at radar hill, military checkpoint, and dorms.
I almost never run customs unless it is for a quest. Usually I'll run reserve. Reserve is a more confusing map with very hard extracts (for pmc), but it has a shitton of loot, and commonly spawns items worth 100k or more. It also has 2 marked rooms. The balancing factor for this map (for pmc) is the extremely hostile AI scavs that commonly spawn, and the extracts that require you to either drop your backpack, or fight off waves of enemies.
The thing that makes this map worth it is the Red Rebel icepick. It's a 6-7mil ruble item, but when paired with paracord, it allows you to extract with all of your loot fast in a secluded area of the map.
