I worked at a cafe here in the US, all the wait staff were spanish speakers

we find it charming when a foreigner makes the effort to speak the language
Hopefully for a gringo the locals would understand even if my spanish isnt the best

but we find it condescending, implying everywhere where spanish is spoken is mexico
